I don't know about you but Queen Elizabeth is basically synonymous with the words "queen" and "royalty" for me. England has had sever more major female rulers than her as well.

Catherine the Great was pretty great.

Even China had one empress, even if she is to this day held up as an example of terrible governance.

The royal family lost all official power at the end of WW2. but they already had lost it for practical purposes, even before that. during the war, the emperor was already a figure head, and the Japanese military was the real power. and in the feudal era even, it was the Shoguns that really wielded power. in truth, the emperors haven't had actual power in centuries. but they are powerful figureheads in Japanese culture, because in Shintoism, its believed that the Emperor is a direct descendant of the Sun Goddess

That's ironic, due to the Meiji Restoration. I suppose Meiji did have power though. What was it all supposed to be about anyway? Just one big farce otherwise...
