Could make an argument not to donate items either, as about 60% of the items donated never get used, either because it's something they received way more of than they needed, or it's something they didn't really need at all, or it's something that was already purchased in bulk. True, money has the downside of potentially being mismanaged, but it has the upside of getting them what they need exactly when they need it. They don't need to have large groups of volunteers spending countless hours sorting through donations to get what they need (and getting rid of what they don't), they just go out and get it. Straight cash is basically the best thing to give if you want to donate.
