Basically the only exercise I do these days is running... And winter is coming. Running in -40 weather is less than ideal. Planet Fitness has more treadmills than any gym I've ever seen. So I guess that's worth the $10/month?

I know they get a bad rep for being anti-bodybuilder and whatnot. But really, if they get a bad rep for anything it should be the horrendous colour scheme they've chosen. Place is hideous.

Not all planet fitnesses are as bad as the reputation but you only want the treadmill so you should be golden. Hard to beat that price.

And yeah, the color scheme is horrendous.

That's what I figured. I used to be a bit of a gym nut, but I'll be honest, it lost it's lustre for me after about a year. I looked great, but it was becoming more of a nuisance than anything to keep up.

Been running for a little over 3 years now and I still enjoy it. Will be doing my first half marathon next weekend. I've wanted to do it for a long time now. Couldn't last year because I was in Africa. Couldn't the year before because of knee problems and my doc told me there was no way in hell I should be running at all, nevermind a marathon. So this is the year. Thought I was going to miss it again this year by going back to Africa but that got pushed to later this month.

Been a while since I did really long distance running though (typically just run 4-5km 4-5 times a week), since I thought I was going to be gone during the marathon... so I made sure I could still do it by running 15km on Wednesday. So I should be all good.

Their philosophy is idiotic and they have no free weights except for like up to 50 pound dumbbells, but if you're just there to treadmill then it doesn't matter.

I'm a pretty damn skinny guy. Should I decide to use the weights, it'll be a good while before I need weights heavier than that <_<

Work keeps sending me over there cause no one else wants to go. Being gone for a month at a time isn't something a lot of people are willing/able to do.

Basically I'm doing contract work for Chevron helping them monitor well data and whatnot.

I don't understand the whole "judgement free zone" bit. I've been a member at Lifetime for nearly a year and I have no idea why PF is trying to imply that other gyms are "judgmental" or something. Can anyone explain?

I assume it's purely a marketing gimmick. They want to tap the market of people that only want to go "once or twice a week". As I'm with you, I've never really felt like I was being "judged" in the gym. Maybe people feel bad if they put two 10lb plates on a bar after watching someone take off 4 45lb plates. I dunno.

Project Engineer. Though schedules like what I've gone through certainly aren't the norm, that's for sure. Can't say a lot of people "want that" though. Since I was doing contract work, the pay wasn't even that great to be honest.

Yeah but it just makes doing proper lifting more difficult. They don't have any olympic bar weights. The smith machines they have are no substitute.

I mean, you can reasonably substitute dumbbells for a bench press and maybe rows, but they're not gonna do you much good for squats and deadlifts which are super important.

Because it's still nice outside. I greatly prefer running outside compared to running on a treadmill.
