Did it for the lulz.

Diablo II (now to be fair, I only targeted cheaters, botters, and utter jerks [partially because they had the best stuff])

I was infamous, literally responsible for the body pop, uber charm item drop, and a ton of social engineering scams. Actually ran a crew of buddies who I coached into doing it.

Launch to Pre 1.09 had multiple accounts with multiple characters full of sojs, dual rings, every unique etc... like back in the day when a Umes wand was something special.

Post 1.09 every unique and item under the sun.

Brother ran a special druid with neigh on infinity hp (IIRC it was a 6 figure health pool) specced for elemental damage, capped move and attack speed and a 3 letter name so people couldn't see damage being done.

I ran necros, sorcs, paladins, whatever geared for absurdity. Zoomancer with a hundred+ minions, 60+ curses etc.

Essentially everyone who played in high school I knew was kitted out with everything.

One time I body popped a guy (forced their items to drop, making everything equipped fall to the ground to be looted). He was like o_O what, how...

I then was like oh this isn't worth my keeping, asked him how much gold (pointless ingame currency that no one bothered to pick up at the time) he replied a low number. I said oh gosh that is too bad, I doubt you will have enough to buy this stuff back from the NPC vendor. Then sold it off to the NPC.

On the flip. Into a closed ladder run I wasn't doing any of that stuff, and a guy did the old bait and switch on me for an item. Totally fell for it, was like oh, dur I of all people should know better. I congratulated him, took him under my wing, and then fleeced him for everything he had. Good old social engineering.



Tons of FTP MMORpgs
The most infamous was Rappelz (brother liked it, korean or something rpg)... someone tried to scam him, he reported it, was directed to the ToS.

The ToS explicitly stated that scamming was legal, encouraged and it was totally your fault if you were stupid enough to get scammed... after 2 weeks they changed that... They were like yeah, we thought it was funny, but seriously dude, you took it too far, you have 90% of the total in-game wealth. Ban Hammer.

Invented one whereby I could obtain pets (ultra rare drops that had ultra rare taming chances) and people thought that it was just the low odds failing them for why they didn't get or have a pet anymore

Total social engineering.

Now I am a nice guy, I go out of my way to res, buff, and help other players. Will give stuff away if the benefit to me is minimal and it can help them. A number of guilds had high opinions of me (plus I had a unique play build in the 1-2% of people who ran a non-standard build). Needless to say, they were among the first to fall victim to me, and the most vocal supporters when someone called me out as a scammer (even talking down the GM's when they were like yeah, hes totally scamming people, its hilarious.

One guy got really annoying (one of the few who figured out he was bamboozled right away) messaging me a ton so I made a point of making a short video of my deleting three times the number of pet cards I got from him. Just destroyed them. Just cause. He was not impressed.

Sometimes it gets a post about it here. Like when they did what's your favourite meat and left out beef, oh did that piss off the masses!

As for my scamming, I didn't do much of that. While on d2 I scammed I couple of people on jsp just because they required such a stupid amount of info to actually punish someone. You would join the private, agreed upon game, not state your forum name, take the shit and leave and they would deem a screen shot of that log not enough. I also did the dnd scam once or twice but ended up quitting on that since only idiots fell for it and idiots had junk. Eventually I stopped being a scum bag and now I'm the wonderful law abiding citizen I am today.

oh its just the few times i've seen it done theres always that one that harrasess the TC for it. sometimes its a more mild and simple "we don't talk about the polls here"

90% of the time, "We don't talk about the poll" gets posted when the topic is incredibly stupid or utterly pointless (ie, making a new topic when there are already a dozen or so on the board and you're just too lazy or egotistical to bother using the search function to see if a similar topic already exists), or when the topic is basically worthless bitching about how some option in the poll is "wrong" or complaining that the poll doesn't contain your special, unique situation and you're overly-entitled enough to come here whining about it (and since no one here actually makes any of the polls, and because the polls are entirely meaningless anyway, and because "WHY DOESN'T THE POLL CATER DIRECTLY TO ME?!" topics get somewhat tiresome after the hundredth one you've seen, none of us here give a single shit anymore).

The other 10% of the time it's Icoyar/WhatPoll/TheWorstPoster posting it.

Generally speaking, if a topic talking about the poll is actually intelligent, raises interesting topics for discussion, and hasn't already been posted a dozen times earlier that same day, people here are more than willing to reply with actual answers.

But most of the time, if a number of people are coming into your topic and saying "We don't talk about the poll", it's because YOU did something wrong.

It's sort of similar to how most topics made solely for the purposes of whining about how terribly unfair the mods are being to you get pasted with "Fair, next" responses. After a certain point, endless valueless repetition breeds contempt.

oh. last time I saw it done i didn't see where the TC had done anything wrong, he just wanted a discussion on the poll. but i'll take your word for it as i've only recently become more active on here, before then i'd just pop in once in a great while because you could always find some bizzare topic that was just bound to be a shit show.

Once with Neopets. But it was to make up everything I'd lost because of Neostaff being Neoassholes.

Made 875k in one day buying and reselling Fairies and Neopets banned my account. So I made a new one, set up a website that had a form on it, called it the Super Giving Tree, and set my bait. "Hey, having bad luck with the Giving Tree? I can give you anything you want! Just give your Neopets login you fucking greedy 11 year old" type of thing.

Fleeced a good 25+ people before I was caught too. Then I found Greasemonkey...I think my account is still up from that one ;D
