Besides, as was said earlier, males in general are more territorial and predisposed to violence. Males are usually bullies in school and are quicker to become confrontational. The movie loses something without that aspect.

Yeah, that would be an interesting character dynamic, wouldn't it?

Lord of the flies is a commentary on men! It's literally made as a commentary on how males devolve and can become prone to violence. In a sense it was already feminist to begin with. It shows that males could be the reason we have so many wars.

An all female cast is illogical and completely loses the intended message.

What we're saying is that making cuts an changes is always a slippery slope at best. Each one risks losing focus of the original material more and more. One could argue that Dragonball: Evolution *could* have worked with its premise, but it clearly didn't due to the number of cuts and changes made to westernize it rendering it an entirely different product. Likewise, changing one of the more defining aspects of the book simply to appease a demographic shows that the person making the cuts likely does not respect the source material. A writer who doesn't respect it will make cuts and changes without regard and come up with a product that the fans will hate through and through.

Oh, I didn't know the kid's genders were integral to the story, we must have read different books, because it's about humanity and what we do when we're all alone.
Now, if they made Piggy super skinny for reasons, yeah that would be a bad change, because that was half of his personality was based on the fact that he was fat.

I think the pig scene requires the characters to be male. Now I dont think they put it in the movies the same way it was in the books so it doesn't matter, but to say it wasnt a part of the story is wrong.

I don't think the story would believably unfold the same way if it were with the opposite gender. Masculinity was a pretty integral part of how things happened the way they did.

I wouldn't say that. Pretty much every Sylvester Stallone movie takes the source material, wipes its ass with it, and somehow comes up with something 100X better. The guy has pretty much built his career off of it.

That said, when Stallone does it he mostly does it with moderately successful novels that have no film history to them. While I am not a huge fan of The Lord of the Flies (mostly because the ending is kind of boring and doesn't make you think that much), it is a well established story and has had 2 very faithful movies made based on it already. If you want to a different twist on it, then make something different that is inspired by it. Don't just use the name of something that already has a well established fan base and movie pedigree.
