Isn't the "no" option on this referendum actually the pro-gay marriage one? I seem to remember getting that impression, based mostly on stuff that has ended up in my newsfeed thanks to an Australian friend.

The postal survey will only ask a single question and that question can only be answered with a ‘Yes’ or a ‘No’. The question that will be posed in the survey is:

Do you support a change in the law to allow same-sex couples to marry?

-also -

we are now calling this a ‘postal survey’, rather than a ‘plebiscite’. This is definitely not a ‘referendum’.

The weird thing in this situation is not if people should vote for or even approve of gay marriage-if you're straight or just don't care, just look at the massive boost it will give to the economy while not changing how you live your life in the slightest.

If you're saying no for religious reasons, how wonderfully quaint but more importantly, I only approve of your decision if you can propose some other ways to inject that much new cash into the economy and why the actions of people you probably don't know or associate with have anything to do with you or will impact on your life? Legit answers requested.

I didn't know it was illegal there. Is Australia really 90+ years behind?

But do they allow same gender marriage? I mean gender is the thing that matters, you're not even allowed to refer to people by their sex so why make a law allowing same sex? It must be redundant.

I'm getting sick of all of the leftist promotion of it here in the U.S., but that's entirely the propaganda itself. As a centrist, I am all for the happiness of others if it doesn't hurt anyone. The universal language is love. Some people are wired differently. It doesn't hurt people at all whatsoever, what's to argue?
