WAY more people would have died. That's what happened during hurricane Rita. The roads can't handle 6 million people trying to leave the city at once. Staying put was the best bet. Everyone in Houston knows it, along with the Houston Mayor.

It's easier to evacuate a city when you've got multiple places to go. But when Houston is in the gulf with the only way to go as north, those highways because death traps with thousands of cars literally parked on highways.

it's a conflicting statement though.... more people stay = more people trapped and could possibly die or attempt to leave and possibly die because they cant get out of town :(.

People love blaming victims.

We should be crucifying state legislators, city council members, and construction workers that destroyed flooding protections, removed natural water absorbing plants, and literally building on FEMA designated FLOOD ZONES without having any plans to protect against it.

Why would people sit on the highway when they are trying to evacuate wouldn't they want to be actually moving?

It was always better to stay than have a mass evacuation once the pattern changed and looked like it was going to settle on Houston. Just look at pictures of the highways leading out of the city and imagine how worse this would be if it was lined with cars and massive traffic issues.

Honestly, city officials have done the best they can. I think things have been handled VERY well, with rescues and controlled releases of water from the reservoirs. The organization from the city itself is actually pretty damn good.

Yeah, the way those volunteers immediately sprung into action is amazing,I've seen people on the roads here with boats heading towards houston. Too bad Trump's dumbass coming here is going to pull resources away from the salvations because he wants to look good for the press.

They said they cant evac Houston in 6 hrs. That wouldve killed people in their cars from the gridlock of traffic and this flooding.

Thing is help from various states are coming and Hurricane Harvey is about to make its return back to land

Agreed. These volunteers are amazing. The Cajun Navy coming all the from from Louisiana to help us...simply breathtaking to me.

**** Trump. He's not gonna help us out of this.

The roads can barely handle the daily traffic influx. A mass evac would have been fucking pandemonium.

Except Trump IS NOT going to go to Houston because he doesn't want to take away from the resources there. He's staying in Corpus Christi.

Exactly. The mayor of Houston just had a press conference where he dropped the mic on all the people sitting behind desks criticizing, instead of DOING something to help.(His words)

Mad respect for him. Hell yeah.
