The green regions want her to resign. The red want her to stay. The grey haven't given an answer yet. The party is doing so poorly and she is given all the blame even though that is unfair. The party's poor results in the polls will last as long as they stick to their current route and that doesn't change with a new leader as it is now. And I want her to stay since the current infighting mean they won't improve ahead of the election in September 2018 >.>

Anna Kinberg Batra's response is that she is not stepping down. The one who should be replaced is Prime-minister Löfven (Socialdemocrat).

Yeah a fairly popular PM should be replaced by you - you who only are wanted as PM by 6% of the people (in a poll released today).

<_<

Very clearly being scapegoated, but her legacy does include starting to negotiate with SD. Which is unprecedented, at least. And a very galvanizing issue.

She is stepping down now tho

Yeah she held a press conference today where she announced her resignation. Eleven regional party councils had turned on her by then.

Very true, but the people behind the SD-move are still high up in the party doing their best to dodge responsibility. AKB wasn't the brain behind that move.

I don't have that kind of insight into the party, but if they're scapegoating her that means they'll try distance the party from that sort of tactics, no? My suspicion would be that it was a ruthless tactic to score votes rather than some sort of ideological shift.

M has been drifting further to the right since they lost the election in 2014 and the ousting of AKB is more about her percieved robotic tv appearances than about policy. The two most probable replacements for AKB, Ulf Kristersson and Elisabeth Svantesson, would not stop the current ideological path the party has started walking along. If they elect Mikael Odenberg as new leader then M would start having more talks with S instead, but he is less likely to be chosen than Kristersson or Svantesson who both belong to the more Conservative faction of the party.

The party got two main factions.

* The highly Conservative faction rooted in Royalism and the belief that the upper class knows best.

* The Liberal faction (classical liberalism for you US folks) which worship the free market and deregulation and wanna tear down the Swedish welfare state.

The area which unite the two factions are economical issues like free market capitalism, tax cuts, privatization and weaker social safety nets.

But the two factions are increasingly at odds on other issues however which has created a heavily fractured party. The now departing leader was part of the Liberal faction but she was increasingly surrounded by the more Conservative faction and now they stabbed her in the back.

I don't like him at all. He has so far shown an inability to actually debate issues without resorting to petty insults and hateful comments at everyone who disagree with him.

He's not necessarily hateful IMO, but his commentary often ends at pointing out others' bad behavior/flaws/hateful comments. So I don't think he's very constructive, although he's pretty clever.

I agree that he is clever but that trait doesn't automatically mean you are someone I like to have a position in power.

A more extreme example: I think Björn Söder is incredibly clever and intelligent but he is still beyond deplorable with his views on Jews, homosexuals etc. You don't become Vice Speaker of Riksdagen without being clever but he doesn't deserve the position.

this is true.
he's very good at pointing out when other people are being idiots.
but he would be absolute shit at leading a party.
and IIRC, i think he knows that.
