This is kind of weird to explain but I'll try to put it in words the best I can..

Does anyone look back on a certain time of gaming, whether it was alone or with friends and miss that time in general? I was just thinking earlier how back in 2013, my friends and brother would all play COD Black ops 2 seemingly 24/7. We'd all get together and play. We seemed to all play it at least a year if not more. But now, nobody plays it.

This may sound loserish, but I miss those days. Just all getting together and obsessing over the game. Trying to prestige up, unlock all the weapon camos, playing search together, etc. I have fond memories of playing that game and it's kind of upsetting to think those days are over.

When I was in college during my second year I lived a dorm with some friends, but the way the dorm room was set up was like a mini apartment. We each had our own bedroom, with a shared common area kitchen and bathroom.

Because of the the set up and our different schedules we rarely hung out during the week. However, every friday night we made a point to hang out, order pizza buy a bunch of beer and play Halo 3. It was cool.

We'd come home, catch up get drunk and play. Sometimes we'd play till the late night then go out and go our separate ways and do whatever it is we had planned. Or we'd chill invite friends or chicks over and just goof and stuff. It was fun, it actually caught on to the point people who didn't live with us asking us for invites. We kept it small and had a rotating guest list of people week to week.

Was a blast.

between 8-15 yrs old i was a casual gamer. playing classic pc games and nes/snes/saturn/ps1. I was actually learning and having fun. (played all types of games).
favorite games were civilization, dune2, starcraft, master of orion, dragon warrior, mgs1, homeworld, early gta games, etc.

my addict years were 16-19 yrs old. lots and lots of pc gaming. competitive, fun but going overboard. (fps and mmorpgs)

since then I play maybe 1 game per year, had some fun games, but my interest is much less.

I miss playing games with my cousins over Xbox live.

They all ended up having kids and getting busy with life and one of them turned reclusive. I never really gamed but that shit was fun. I miss it.

I still have a lot of good times, but I think it changed once I stopped making friends over the internet. When I was younger, I'd actually add people I enjoyed playing with and develop relationships with them. I still remember crying when I was like 13 because I got kicked out of my WoW guild I had been in for months.

Now I have a lot of real friends and don't really want to be making friends on the internet as a lot of people seem ok at first but then they just turn out to be fucking weirdos. A few of my real friends play games though and it's still a blast doing squad with real life mates in PUBG.

Playing SNES, PS1, and N64 games with my cousins.

I really hate how most modern games don't even have splitscreen multiplayer anymore.

One of my fondest memories is a New Year's Eve party when I was a kid. We gathered at a friends house and played Mario Kart 64 all night.

The games are still out there, even for PC... the selection isn't as varied but we still have plenty of split-screen IMO.

Playing Melee with my friends is a big one. Those were really good times.

Then there's all those RPGs on the Playstation 2. It was the golden era of the JRPG and all those summer nights staying up to just be in these worlds was fucking amazing. The ending to Xenosaga III, recruiting people in Radiata Stories, the atmosphere of Dragon Quarter, the memorable bosses in Final Fantasy X, grinding in Final Fantasy XII, flying in Grandia III, fishing in Dark Cloud 2, all of those Gust games and their huge character sprites and really great localizations and so much more...

A lot of it is growing up, not having the time or drive to play games like that anymore or just not having the same kind of game available. I still go back to a lot of those PS2 RPGs, but those first experiences with them will always be really amazing and something I wish I could live through again.

It was actually COD Ghosts for me. I got it at midnight when it first came out and I played it all the time. I was one of the few people that actually liked that game.

But the reason I'm fond of the memories is because I was in a state of deep depression at the time - I literally didn't leave my house for weeks at a time. I wasn't in school at the time nor was I working. I pretty much would stay up until 5am everyday playing it. I guess why I'm so fond of it is because it helped me get through my depression. It was an escape from reality, if that makes any sense.

Some days I almost wish I was back in those days again. Not the depression part. Just being alone and playing that game like I was.

Playing World of Warcraft for the first time in vanilla when the game didn't hold your hand as much.

Spending 10+ hours a day on Halo 3 with the random group I matched with in Big Team Battle one day and still play with to this day, though we play for a couple hours a month now if that.

Warcraft 3 customs before the customs list was just a hundred DOTA lobbies. Fuck DOTA.
