I feel like a lot of non-craft beers taste like nothing. Check out the craft scene and see if anything calls to you. Unlike wine, flavored beers tend to taste like whatever is on the label. Better yet, see if there are any beer tasting events coming up, since it's that time of year and a lot of breweries will be previewing their seasonal beers now. Get a friend and go check them out. Even if you don't fall in love, you'll leave with a stronger sense of your palette and why you like what you like.

Sometimes I'll get the craving for a frosty beer, like when I'm sitting on the porch on a hot summer day, but otherwise I tend to agree that beer's pretty overrated. A good IPA in the right circumstance can work for me too, though.

I find myself ordering ciders more and more, or wine, or even fruity drinks. Just tastes better in most situations.

Sure, there are definitely many brands out there that taste like ass, but a good beer is always very refreshing.

i hated the taste of all alcoholic drinks besides the easiest to drink shit until i turned 21 and started drinking more socially (prior to that it was all just binge drinking with the sole intention of getting drunk). once you get used to it beer is fantastic and there is a surprising amount of nuance to it. love finding a new craft brewery and getting a flight

Flights are my favorite thing ever...
Truth be told though IPA rank fairly low on my list, not a fan of that massive amount of hops. Doesn't mean i won't drink IPA's but I prefer just about any other beer type when given the option.

I remember when I was a kid (like 5-10) I couldn't wait to to be an adult and get drunk all the time. After watching some TV a bit above my age and seeing my mom drink everyday I thought it was cool.

Now as an adult I hate beer and drink once or twice a week if that.

Not gonna lie, when I was a kid, every once in a while my dad would let me have a sip of his beer, and it was straight up the most delicious thing I had ever tasted. To my pure, innocent, virgin body, it came off as super alcoholic and intense.

It was probably like Bud Light or something.

They actually have flavors. Smaller batches of production mean these breweries can put produce specialty styles or flavors with comparatively little risk on underselling beers. Even better, as some of these find their niche and they become profitable, they'll continue experimenting. So you find new experiences from time to time.

Same I remember when I was a kid playing spider man 2 I finally asked my dad for a beer (think I was 10 at the time). Finally got my first sip.

And it was shit. I will probably never drink alcohol again.

They don't taste like piss water for one. I'm convinced people who make that complaint drank their parents Bud/Coors/Miller/Natty and painted all beers under that same banner.

They use higher quality ingredients and are more careful with the brewing process. It's like comparing processed McDonald's burgers to a homemade one

Sounds like Stockholm syndrome.

I get where you're coming from, TC. Especially if you've been drinking budlight or keystone.

But once you've drank it enough times to find out which beer you personally like, then you'll find yourself at a long day of work craving a beer.

Beer solves its own awful taste by getting you so flywheeled that you'll think even a white castle hamburger you found in a dumpster is Thanksgiving dinner.

I started out drinking cheap light beers in college, and didn't really enjoy the taste. So I didn't drink much of it, and that worked out pretty well. Stuck to rum instead, mostly.

Few years later I went to a bar with a lot of craft beers, and tried a random one they had on draft that day: Ommegang's Abbey Ale. Life changing day. Fantastic beer that opened my eyes to how great beer can be, and since then the variety of styles I like has grown tremendously.

In short, there are good beers and bad beers. Who knew?

I love a good beer, I love black coffee (drinking some now).
