Goddamn, that trilogy is the GOAT. I don't think any individual one of them is the best movie ever made, but there is just nothing like it in terms of the complete product. The set design, the sheer scope, the stunts, the costuming, the acting, the dialogue, the fight choreography. Jesus.

And, of course, the score. If you guys ever have anything similar to this, where they play the movie on a big screen and a live orchestra plays the score, you gotta check it out. I always loved the score, but it highlights it even more when it's being played for you right there.

This is not from my show, but it was pretty much exactly this.

One movie per night. Intermission halfway through each.

Also lol @ that trilogy only being seven hours long. Try like 9.5, unextended.

I wasn't feeling them, when I watched them last, but that was years ago, so maybe I should give them another chance

So they weren't the EEs? You missed the Lament for Gandalf. Would love to hear that live.

You really ought to. If you can get your hands on the extended versions, I highly recommend that. If you're sitting down to watch a LotR movie, you're already dedicating three hours, so might as well make it 3:20 and get some more context and character building.

Plus the extended versions divide each movie cleanly in half for you, so you could really make it bite-sized.

It's been a while since I've seen the EE, but I know there's at least a bit of the Lament for Gandalf in the theatrical version. Legolas definitely mentioned it.

Yup. Every time I think "eh, you know, the Hobbit trilogy wasn't so bad," I watch LotR and it just makes me so mad. It looks so, so, so, so much better than the Hobbit films.

Not to mention the movies on the whole being so, so, so, so much better than the Hobbit films, but I digress. The Hobbit trilogy was still alright, but really only on the back of LotR and using the score and sets previously established. Without the nostalgia factor, they're just dece at best. Even with the nostalgia factor, tbh.

i remember in school when they had the free movie day at the theatre. everyone went and watched the lord of the rings but they wouldn't allow one year to watch the return of the king because the movie was too long. that sucked.

Lord of the INVINCIBLE fucking main cast that knows it and just throws themselves into danger and easily winning. Zero tension. Is there an army of orcs at the front gate? I will LITERALLY jump into them and easily kill them. GIANT war elephant? Leg, go EASILY take it down in seconds.

Me and my bros nerd it out for one day each year when we watch all three extended edition movies and those movies are so good, I never get burned out watching eleven and a half hours of what's essentially one super long movie. I'd love to attend one of these, looks awesome. The LotR trilogy score is one of my favorite movie scores, a live orchestra probably enhances the whole experience.

It absolutely does. It was incredible.

And yeah, I don't do it yearly, but every couple of years I can sit down and watch the trilogy. Honestly I could probably do it annually, but keeping it every 2-3 years keeps the magic alive a little bit more.

It was a magical experience, man. The live performance of "Into the West" at the end drew some man-tears.
