What do all these letters mean?

The LGBT community is a very diverse community that represents a variety of sexual and gender identities. The acronym stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender. However, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Another common acronym is LGTBQQIAA, which adds queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, and ally. Other acronyms may include an asterisk (*) next to it to symbolize any omitted letters. In order to simplify things, many people use “queer” instead of an acronym as an umbrella term in order to be more inclusive.

I've only used LGBT and that's the only version of it I ever will use. The initialism isn't a battleground for groups to fight over, and not being included in it isn't the same as explicit exclusion despite what some people have been deluded into thinking.

Better than that, I prefer GSD - Gender and Sexual Diversity. It covers literally everything that does or can exist within our group, and never needs modification.

(edit: I'm bi, in case that remotely matters.)

I've heard that an optimal acronym that some people stand by is QUILTBAG - it's kinda dumb, but it has a lot of coverage and it works like a mnemonic so you can recall it fairly easily. Personally I stand by LGBTQIA+, not because the other letters aren't important but because I feel goofy typing out QUILTBAG.

Depending on the crowd, people count the A as asexual or ally. there's a vocal contingent on Tumblr who are convinced that Asexual people don't belong in the community, because people say that ace people who swing towards hetero are just as valid as aces as ones who swing towards the more gay/pan side of things. The whole group is considered hetero invaders, and they're bombarded with hate mail and shit by TERF-type people. The same sort of people only see the word "queer" as a slur and an insult, while there's a large group who have reclaimed it and use it as a general descriptor to other people to signify that they're not straight, but they're not entirely sure where they're at. Basically your stereotypical "victimized" Tumblrite. It's fucking annoying to see these people fight for what they see as protection of the LGBTQIA+ community from hate, pain and malice, but actively try to harm two subsets of people who are included in the community, and a lot of the extended acronyms. They try to uphold LGBT as the One True Acronym, and they'll say all sorts of heinous shit to justify it. Fuck them.

EDIT: For the record, just preferring LGBT isn't a dick move, that's your choice and it's cool if you're still down with other orientations and subsets of people even if they're not included in the acronym you prefer. People who dick around and spread hate, slander and lies to uphold the LGBT acronym and maintain that nothing else matters? That's where my beef lies.

It's not annoying at all; you are clearly just being obtuse. If you really wanted to know why the flag is a rainbow, you can read up about it on wikipedia.

But I'll spell it out for you. A rainbow is a good symbol to use because of how it clearly represents diversity. It's pretty obvious.

Moreover, LGBT culture is flamboyant and colorful, just like rainbows.

Additionally, each color was added to represent something: life, healing, sunlight, nature, serenity, and spirit. It originally had more than 6 colors.

So stop whining about rainbows being associated with gay people
