If it's not goodyear welted and full grain leather, you got ripped off. Afaik Hugo Boss doesn't do full grain leather, but I don't know what specific pair you have. There is nothing wrong with spending that much on shoes, I myself just spent $450 on a pair of double monk straps. The problem is spending that much when you have no idea what you are actually paying for. Are you paying for a well constructed shoe or just the name brand? A good pair of shoes can literally last a lifetime with good care. Goodyear welt means the sole will stay attached, not let water damage leak in and once the sole is worn out, it can be replaced. Full grain leather means the leather breaks in over time and actually looks better as well as takes better to polishing. If you're just buying it for the brand and the style, as opposed to good quality, then you are a loser.

You're making a lot of common mistakes there. Style is definitely a different category. But quality/comfort/durability all go together. If a shoe is made well from good materials, it's going to be comfortable. If a shoe is made with quality, it's going to be durable.

As for "hype", I'm not sure what concern that is out of high school. If it looks good, people will be asking to what brand it is. Newsflash...most people have never heard of the really higher end brands. If most people have heard about the brand and most people are idiots, what does that actually say about your shoes? People stop me in the street constantly asking where i got my shoes (and other clothing items) from. I gladly tell them and tell the history behind the brand. FYI in the clothing forums I visit, everyone is very familiar with my brand of shoes even if no one else is.

If you think good materials=good comfort you clearly never wore a LeBron 11 lol. Biggest design flaw I ever felt in that shoe. But hype is important, I want to wear what is in style not just any old adidas or nike I see that looks cool. and I said i dont care about designer brands, I only wear sneakers lol.

you dont even belong in this conversation if you're talking about sneakers. i don't even mean that in a condescending way, i just mean that sneakers is an entirely different category of shoes than dress shoes. Like if we were discussing suits and you came in talking about leather jackets. And you're misusing the phrase designer brands. Your sneakers are designer brands. What phrase it sounds like you're thinking about is dress shoes.

Ok, so Socal is a decidedly casual place, which is perfect because it means dressing up just a bit is enough to get you plenty noticed without standing out too much.

You also work in a very casual place, so we aren't going to dress you up too much.

Tell me whether or not you are opposed to any of the following items:

Dark blue jeans (no fades or rips)
Brown dress shoes
White dress shirt
Navy sportcoat
Grey chinos

Additional questions:
1. what are your favorite colors?
2. what kind of image do you want to project to the world?

Again, everyone has a different lifestyle. If that fulfills your needs great. But if you showed up to a black tie gala wearing those when everyone else is in a tux, you'll get laughed out. I've also had friends denied club entry for wearing black sneakers instead of dress shoes. But if you spend all your time in dive bars, great.

If you liked them great...but doesn't sound like the quality is actually all there, since you can't tell me the construction or leather quality in any qualitative term. For the same price, you easily could have gotten identical looking shoes that would literally, not basically, literally last you a lifetime and would probably be even more comfortable. But if you just love the Hugo Boss label (someone that literally helped nazis in WWII) then...good for you I guess. But may be worth further evaluating how you actually view and value certain things.

Stay open to the idea of a jacket, you're used to stuffy jackets with thick linings. Once you know what to look for, I can find you a jacket with little lining in a breathable material that'll be more than wearable in Socal. Keep in mind I live in cali too, so I'm very familiar with the weather/culture.

Okay, I'll add olive chinos and navy/white/green polo shirts to the list.

This is how it's going to work:
We are slowly going to narrow down a few dressier items you like until we have specifics then I'll have you read a couple of short articles followed by having you do some research for the items from specific brands then by the time labor day sales roll around you should be able to pick up a few things within your price range.

1. No need to do it now, but get me pics of your darker jeans complete with fit pics (70% of style is fit).
2. Look at the following shades of brown dress shoes: tan, mid, dark, burgundy and the following styles: wingtips, captoes, brogues, monk straps, loafers

Take your time, shoes are important
