I spilled coke on my favorite controller, so in a self sacrificing move I put my mouth over the buttons and sucked as hard as I could.

I caught an eye lash, some salty stuff, and who knows what at the back of my throat.

Then I grimaced and did it 4 more times.

The controller is mostly dry as far as I can tell.

no, ive never rubbed a lysol wipe on any controller ive ever used.

we could have the birth of a new strain, literally, on our hands.

Why didn't you just turn the controller over, even if you had to spill the Coke on yourself to avoid getting it on the floor or whatever? And I really didn't need that detailed description, you could have just said you sucked up dust and crumbs that were stuck in there

i wipe down my controller daily with a lysol wipe, and about once a month i completely disassemble the thing and clean it

also, unless it was diet soda, you're going to need to disassemble your controller and clean it, otherwise the residual soda is going to dry and become sticky.

That still wouldn't get the soda all the way out. Coke is the mushy button maker.

i remember when i spilled orange juice on my favorite 360 controller years ago.

i had to take it completely apart, take all the plastic off, use rubbing alcohol and q tips to clean the PCB, then take all the plastic parts, put them in a colander, then put that inside a sink filled with soapy water and let them soak.

it was the biggest pain in the ass controller cleaning i ever had to do

but that controller still works 100% perfectly to this day, so it was worth it. love that fucking red controller.

This is why I don't drink or eat anything while playing games. Too many possibilities for something to get spilled.

Of course ever since the PS2/Xbox gen I will NOT try opening consoles or controllers. I tried with a couple Dualshock 3's only to find that Sony had cheaped out and put frustratingly difficult to get back into place 'springs' in them. Never again.

oh, yeah, no. official sony controllers have always been a complete fucking pain in the ass to put back together

the springs in a dualshock 3 are pretty much a non-issue compared to the dumb ass decision to make a contact ribbon sheet for the buttons.

I spilled beer on a controller once. I took apart the entire thing, cleaned it up (I thought), and dried it off. The buttons still stuck for a good month or so before it eventually worked it's way out of the mechanism.

So good luck with that.

That being said, in 2006 when I got my Wii, I was playing Twilight Princess in a dark room and eating a bowl of nacho cheese chips.

The white analog stick was died red/orange for at least 6 months, that would not scrub out.
