It's long, but you don't need to watch it all, she starts to talk about a 2016 script she read and go into movie spoilers. But she says when it's that. But she'll explain why the new Pennywise is gonna be more accurate to the book. And I agree.

I think the new movie might be good.

You should finish it. Even tho it's typical King to make the ending really strange.

He isn't supposed to look like Tim Curry's either.

The only good part of the miniseries was Tim Curry, but he was too goofy imo. As an adult the miniseries is a cringe and a comedy. Yeah it was scary af when I was a kid.

Skarsgård looks super creepy and not try-hardish in this clip
https://youtu.be/m5-nmv1A_-g?t=23s

The trailers are just showing him with his creepy smile all the time. I'm sure that's not the only way we'll see him.

I actually own the TV movie on DVD, and I've seen it many times, bonus content and all. I agree that it has a decidedly, 80's TV movie feel. Outside of Tim Curry, I agree that the movie was pretty weak.

A lot of that is just aging poorly though.

I'm excited about the new one though but idk why so many people say penny wise isn't funny or goofy.

Pretty much everything up to the fourth interlude is comedy from penneywise which is like 900 out of the 1100 pages.

I got high hopes for the new one though hopefully it's a good mixture.

In the new trailer when Pennywise says "Here, take it" it honestly sounds creepy as hell. New design looks good to me and this was one movie that seriously did need a remake

The old one is still great, and it has some awesome effects for the time, but it just doesn't hold up today

It's not really a remake of the miniseries. It's just a new interpretation from the books. The source material is the books , not the miniseries.

Not really.

Sure the kids were scared shitless but as a reader the creepiness for me came from the subtle things.

Ms. K, Bevs dad, The moon conversation, I mean I could go on and on.

I'm literally reading it again right now and am at the last part of chapter 18 "the bullseye", I got the same feeling this read through too.

Yea, that's basically what I meant

It (pun) needed to be brought back in an entirely new way. Same thing for The Stand as well

The only good part of the TV mini-series was Tim Curry and the half that involved the kids. The adults part was ass and the spider reveal was poorly done, plus how they stomped him to death was cheesy

Its been over 20 years since I read it, and a lot has been lost to memory, but you know the one thing that I still remember vividly?

When they're exploring that old house and the cute elf wallpaper starts turning demonic. I remember reading that in my couch fort at my grandmas house and couldn't get the picture out of my head. What an awesome touch that was

I never said the kids did, in fact, I said the opposite. I said as a reader, meaning me.

That's fine, everyone I talked to felt the scariest parts of the book were the subltle conversations and awkward statements as opposed to the description of leeches eating Patrick or Eddie. Like Eddie feeling for the zipper, that's black comedy, that's not outright horror like you said.

Guess it's something with you and your "friends".

Just feels that you can't get into how characters are feeling and their terror. When I read I always get really into and immersed into the characters. I could not find the comedy in the terrible deaths despite how silly they would seem because I got so immersed to the characters.

Even so, Pennywise from the book didn't act like a silly clown like the Tim Curry one did.

what makes clowns scary is that they are silly and laugh
because it is weird and inhuman

when a clown frowns and gives you the evil face, it is acting more like a human

you expect a serial killer to not have a smile and give you the evil eye

you don't expect them to be silly with a big smile on their face

but perhaps this is why kids are afraid of clowns more than adults, so if you try to make this scarier for adults, it might not be scary to kids idk

No not at all I didn't mean to imply I thought book PW was like TC's.

I didn't mean to refer to the deaths themselves either except that one specific one mainly because it's pretty black comedy.

I agree I find it more scary in the descriptions and conversations from the children like the house changing or Richie and the statue.

I was just saying I found a lot of humor in the scary scenes with penny too like with the EK and the leaper, there's something terrifying but also funny about asking to give a blowjob for a nickel. Same with Bev and her dad, he's scary, PW as him is haunting but also absurd in a maniacal laughing way.

Yeah. Well I understand what you mean. Yeah when Pennywise is "funny" he is funny in a non funny way, still a terrible and horrifying way. But Tim Curry Pennywise is just coming in doing a joke, be funny, then scaring. It's not how Pennywise is. I think Skarsgård Pennywise will be more accurate to the books, being funny in a terrible way. I think we already see it in the small clip I posted where he is in the TV.

Agreed, I have high hopes for this movie. I like that they're breaking it up and going in depth.

So much was missing from the miniseries.

I love Tim Currys performance but I completely agree he wasn't pennywise. Damn entertaining though.

I think Ben and Stan got fucked in the movie the most though.

Well they are cutting out a lot in this movie as well, I mean they can't get it all in there. And they are making changes and stuff. But as long as it works within the context and has the heart of the book I don't care, and what we have been presented this far seems to have it.

Ya no doubt. No way they could put in everything but hopefully some.

Like silver, throw the damn thing in there.

I don't really recall the neibolt house being in the movie either right? It may have been though it's been a while since I've watched.

Same with the other victims. All in all I'm sure I'll be happy though since something's coming out at least and 27 years after 1990 haha. The cycle begins anew!

Neibolt house is not in the miniseries at all. So I'm happy it's here now.

Apparently the first part will have no flashbacks to other events or victims, but they will most likely be in part 2. Suggestion for part 2 is that it will start with the Black Spot fire. And they might show the Adrian Mellon thing too, settlers etc.

But I didn't look at the details and stuff. It seems promising.

This seemed obvious. Tim Curry was just hamming it up as an evil clown. Which was entertaining but it wasn't really the same thing I was picturing in the book.

Besides this movie seems to go beyond Pennywise while the TV movie didn't really IIRC.
