Many of us have been told by scientists, doctors or our parents that violent video games can be bad for our eyes and our mind, but now a new study has specifically linked shooter video games with the risk of Alzheimer's disease. Dr. Greg West, from the University of Montreal in Canada is the lead scientist and he explained his findings to Newsday.

And eggs and mayo are going to give us heart disease until the next study contradicts it. And according to CA's stupid Prop 65 stickers, every fucking thing everywhere is going to give us all cancer. Chocolate causes diabetes but then it helps arteries. And now gaming was good for your brain and hand/eye coordination until this.
Whatever.
We're all going to die of something. May as well enjoy the time you have.

My man.

You can get cancer from the sun but you get vitamin D from it. We're busy running around looking for what can kill us and what poses the biggest risks, and any article you find gets shipped around like "make sure you and your family don't do this or you'll get this!"

Like I don't want to live like fucking Bubble Boy throughout my life. Weigh the risk and reward and make your decision.

I'm amazed they didn't link it with cancer like every other thing you can think of has been linked to already

I thought Alzheimer's was caused by brain tar or something of the like. There's also lots of publications out there that they're on the verge of combating it if not outright curing it.

Is BBC becoming fake news?

Kinda early to make this link when people of Alzheimer's age were like 45-55 when shooters became a thing.

why shooters specifically over other genres?

Maybe due to you always being on guard since you never know when you're going to get into a battle? More brain usage?

The study talked about different areas of the brain being used.

A certain area used during action games (shooters being the most numerous example) was used extensively because it was involved with orientation and navigation via short term memory. The more this area is used, the less the hippocampus is used, which is linked with Alzheimer's. And apparently "those who used landmarks for navigation rather than direction (whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean) were less affected, though they are the minority (somehow)."

How could they possibly know that? Shooting games haven't been around long enough for players to get Alzheimer's.

These are loose associations guys. Shooters haven't even been out long enough to study a population to even stratify such a risk. Their claim is such a stretch, I think I pulled a muscle.
