How much of a white knight do you have to think the guy did anything wrong here? There's nothing wrong with the girl taking precautions, but do it discreetly. It's idiotic to think you can basically tell someone to their face that you think they might rape or murder you and not expect them to react negatively to it.

Also that article is the most biased trash I've read all week

Literally sitting here advocating it's okay to leave a girl stranded on her own because she was letting a friend know how to find her, just in case.

Fuck all of you people.

Being a girl doesn't mean you get to be insulting to people you barely know and still expect a ride home. Sorry. This guys still basically a stranger and doesn't owe you anything.

I see nothing wrong with taking precautions. It's a dangerous world out there and even psychopaths can be seen as normal people. With that said, making it blatant like that was probably a mistake, doing it secretly would probably be her best decision.

What can you get with a plate number?

Get the make, colour of the vehicle, rough composition of the driver, and the license plate, and you can create a bunch of havoc with the police department. I don't fault the guy for leaving though, because I don't want some strange ass taking photos of my license plate.

Too bad they don't and it doesn't really matter because you know that wasn't my point. You're trying to side step the actual point because you know a girl would be offended if you asked. As she should be. Just like a guy might be offended if you imply you think he might be a rapist. Now it's 3:30 in the morning here and I'm done trying to explain common sense to you. Clearly anything other than "The woman is always right!" doesn't register to you. So I'm done

It's unreasonable to expect people to carry STD tests with them to a date. Doesn't matter if it's a guy or girl. But you can use condoms as a precaution. If a girl is offended I wanted to use a condom she can go fuck herself instead. I don't care if she takes it as a personal offense.

Common sense should be that precautions made during a first date aren't personal. Not "OMG she thinks I'm a rapist!"

Not getting fucking raped or murdered is not the same as not getting a fucking STD!!! Especially when you can just use a fucking condom to protect yourself from getting like 95% of them. People can't exactly protect themselves from being raped or murdered by applying a thin layer of latex around themselves!

Amusingly, I bet if you swapped the genders in the story, some of the same people defending the woman and bashing the man would ...still be defending the woman and bashing the man even though having a penis does not make someone instantly invulnerable to assault/robbery/death. Now if the folks supporting her precautions are just peachy-keen on guys doing it too, alright then, props for consistency at least.

Personally I think it would be a bit *too* paranoid and end up ruining the tone of the date if the first thing one party assumes of the other is "yep, they're totally going to ravage my hole/pole, steal my organs, and take my wallet/purse". Like, at that point it would just be quicker and less expensive for both people to cancel the whole outing if trust and safety levels are already in the gutter.

I'll be honest, if a girl did that to me, I'd feel a bit offended and the date would be a complete wash. I mean I get why she'd do it, but I'd go into the date thinking she's leery of me and become incredibly self conscious. That's why I think it'd be better to simply meet up in a public space for a first date and rely on your own transportation.

this is ridiculous.

I can see why someone might be offended. However, in this world we live in, we blame women when they get assaulted if they don't do every possible thing to keep themselves safe. Then, in a case like this, a woman does what she can to help ensure her safety, and its offensive.

If something happened, there would be people who would say "Well, what do you expect when you meet men that you don't know." And others who would say "Serves her right for meeting up with men she doesn't know on the internet". And people would be (rightfully) offended at that, and call it victim blaming, and the people who said those things would day "It's not victim blaming, its taking personal responsibility".

So, if you want people to do things to ensure their own safety, don't get mad when they do it. It's one guy's hurt feelings (which don't need to be, because it's not personal), versus someone's peace of mind that they did everything they can do to make sure they aren't hurt or sexually assaulted by someone they don't know well. It's not a big deal, and in fact a reaction to what culture told her is her responsibility, which is keeping herself safe.

With that said, I never tell the girls about this, and that's the issue here. This girl was way too blatant about it. Doing something like that in a person's face is insulting, and it just shows horrendous social skills on a date.
