If it's bad, I'll be right here with you. He's never been all that interesting to me and this is weird. That said, if he slays the silver screen, I'm completely here for it and I will categorically deny every having been ambivalent towards this character.

I'm willing to withhold judgment until I have more information/have seen the movie.

That's the thing. He's coming across as the most boring character in the new Justice League movie. I would have preferred to see him replaced with Hal Jordan to add a more interesting dynamic to the team.

He isn't replacing Hal at all. It has been highly speculated that Hal will be in the movie, he's just being saved and not spoiled like how WW was treated in BvS.

It's more like he's replacing Martian Manhunter.

Why are you making this a race thing?

I don't have to like a character just because they're black. And John Stewart is a vastly more interesting character than Cyborg.

With that being said, like I said, I didn't mind his characterization in the Teen Titans show. But in everything else he's just boring.

Yeah that's what it really boils down to. He was a fun character when he was a teen hanging out with other teens. But in the Justice League he's just sort of...There. In the new movie, it seems like Flash is the youthful optimist of the group so Cyborg doesn't really have a standout personality like the other members (well, Superman is still kinda boring in the DCEU as well...)

Martian Manhunter is a fan favorite because of Justice League. I won't pretend to know what he's like in the comics, but I loved him in JL and a couple other animated DC stuff that I've watched (The New Frontier and Young Justice).

And yeah, he's just got much more interesting powers. More than most characters in the DC universe.

He has the same powerset as superman, except he can shapeshift and read people's minds. He doesn't ever do much of anything in a team cause Superman already has all of Superman's powers, plus he's much more popular. In almost everything he's in (not too sure about the comics) all he ever does is brood at the JL tower or just gets his asskicked. At least Cyborg, boring as he is, has more unique traits to bring to the table.

I wasn't the one who stormed into GameFAQs with a topic about how Cyborg was boring and Hal Jordan / John Stewart / Martian Manhunter / random character is superior.

I mean I was actually trying to say that he was being promoted specifically to appeal to "comic purists" type people who are aware of characters like Cyborg and want more of them and less "It's Captain America, but now he's Black."

But then you come in and are all trying to shit on this effort by DC trying to actually do the right thing by promoting Cyborg.

Because of some backwards opinion like "Martian Manhunter has unique and better powers!"

I need to doublecheck to see how much overlap there is between people who insist Superman is a bad character because of his powers but think Martian Manhunter is great.

Start a new hero team. Super League of Super Hipsters or some shit.

Yeah, that's not what Manhunter does in the comics at all, so that's no really a good point against him.

And this Cyborg doesn't even seem as interesting as the normal Cyborg. He seems incredibly serious and almost emotionless in every clip we've seen of him. So sounds like a step down from even the animated Manhunter or whatever you were referring to.

I don't think a character's powerset makes or breaks them either, but in this particular case I'm thinking of the fairly new DC film universe. Not much is really established yet, so a character's abilities are a big thing to work off of. I just think all the stuff MM can do would be more interesting to watch than whatever Cyborg can do.

Holy shit, you got super defensive so fast.

First off, nothing about race was mentioned yet you brought it up just to be confrontational. Even though I'm black, I don't have to like every black superhero just because they're black. That's silly. White people don't go around liking every white character just because they're white, so why am I obligated to like a black character that isn't appealing to me? There's plenty of black characters I like; Cyborg's current incarnation isn't one of them.

And why are you taking so much offense to people thinking Martian Manhunter, for whatever reason, is a more interesting character? That's their opinion.

That's ultimately where you're wrong. One of the reasons of the huge push for Cyborg (which started years ago in the comics) is because Cyborg's powers lend him to becoming more powerful as time progressed and more advanced technology became available. He was not that powerful when he was first written because technology wasn't as advanced as it was now.

Shit like the omnipresence of the internet and other things gave rise to plots and stories with Cyborg that weren't previously possible. Cyborg gets more interesting as time goes on.

The most interesting parts of Martian Manhunter are part of his biography, not his future.

Superfriends made Aquaman the butt of jokes since the 70's. To this day, many still see him as a lame hero who only "swims fast and talks to fish." For years they've tried over-compensating in other direction to make him badass (like giving him a beard and a harpoon hand). Nice to see them finally succeeding in making modern audiences be interested in him again.

Jon Stewart on the other hand is a like a grissly middle aged man who has seen some s*** and got swag to make Hawkgirl wanna drop her panties for him

I guess it is more because Cyborg is an inexperienced kid, it is just kinda meh

and tbh the kid flash comes off the same way, why not just have and older veteran flash?

No. Start an argument is to create a thread and say "(character x) is boring and stupid and doesn't deserve the popularity they have."

No, starting an argument is playing the racecard for absolutely no reason when somebody expresses that they don't like a certain character being shoved down our throats.

Literally an argument over what constitutes starting an argument.

I'm gonna get back to work.

You are literally the only person arguing here. Nobody else in this topic found my comment hostile or aggressive enough to start getting on the defensive for no reason.

You start off trying to defend the character by going "YOU WON'T SUPPORT A BLACK CHARACTER? SHAME ON YOU" then get into a rage war arguing with people who say they find Martian Manhunter more interesting.
