I will let the liberals answer for their own sins in this regard. (There are many.) But we conservatives mocked Barack Obama’s failure to deliver on his pledge to change the tone in Washington even as we worked to assist with that failure. It was we conservatives who, upon Obama’s election, stated that our No. 1 priority was not advancing a conservative policy agenda but making Obama a one-term president—the corollary to this binary thinking being that his failure would be our success and the fortunes of the citizenry would presumably be sorted out in the meantime.

It was we conservatives who were largely silent when the most egregious and sustained attacks on Obama’s legitimacy were leveled by marginal figures who would later be embraced and legitimized by far too many of us. It was we conservatives who rightly and robustly asserted our constitutional prerogatives as a co-equal branch of government when a Democrat was in the White House but who, despite solemn vows to do the same in the event of a Trump presidency, have maintained an unnerving silence as instability has ensued. To carry on in the spring of 2017 as if what was happening was anything approaching normalcy required a determined suspension of critical faculties. And tremendous powers of denial.

This is big news guys. Flake is a tow the line party member, and he's essentially accussing the president of destroying our institutions. The house of cards is tumbling in the one place Trump absolutely needs it to stay standing. If he losses Congress, that's checkmate.

hopefully more and more wake up
but still, I'm cynical. reminds me of all the Bush supporters in 2006 who swore him off in 2008. look where that got us with McCain and Romney, and now Trump. even if they do cast Trump out, they'll just love Pence or Ryan or whoever they drag out in 2020

If they were opposing Trump in any meaningful way, he would have been justifiably removed from office long before now. They've towed his line to an astounding degree, and now it's coming to an end. Traitorous Trump is going down, and his followers would be smart to jump ship now before they irrevocably cement their status as social pariahs.

Anti-Trump or not, his ability to basically say "our treatment of Obama is what started both sides down this path" is big...It stopped being about policies and was even more so about "MY TEAM WON NAH NAH!"...and Trump is further doing just that. He's warning his fellow GOP members to not fall for it and stop allowing him to do that. Don't make it about beating the Democrats, make it about Policy...its refreshing to hear that, especially from a Republican.

Devos, Sessions, Carson,

Does Devos have worse credentials than Spellings? They're both political patronage picks. Having a sitting senator become AG is hardly crazy, although I do wonder who Jeb or Rubio would have picked.

Carson is an interesting one because he lacks the typical credentials you'd expect, but the typical credentials have nothing to do with housing policy. Julian Castro's only experience with housing was as a weak, part-time mayor whose administration didn't even emphasize housing

Yea, the speaking out against Trump is normal and if it was just that I'd not think much of it...but to say, basically, "we did Obama wrong too" could hurt his standing in the GOP. That part took courage to admit.

This is easily the most damning condemnation from a high ranking memeber of the GOP since the election, by far.

Probably not, but undermining the electoral process definitely is, with a hell of a lot of help from the two party system we've somehow landed in.

The entire purpose of Article 2 Section 1, paragraphs 2 and 3, was to prevent a popular idiot from becoming president.
Handcuffing the electors to the popular vote, as democrats seem to want, will only make the problem worse.
