this was already apparent from prior studies, which required peak emissions to have already been hit AND total net emissions to go negative just to make +1.5C.
good to have more data on the subject, and i honestly think this points to the real goal of the rich who deny climate change as being to create safe enclaves for themselves and their offspring, rather than actually helping the world fight the problem. when you've concluded that global effort is not going to work it makes a terrifying amount of sense to conclude "fuck them, then. i just have to make sure i've got mine." --- And when the hourglass has run out, eternity asks you about only one thing: whether you have lived in despair or not. ... American culture has always been about unbridled optimistic, confidence, and work ethic. We've solved more difficult problems before.
There are technical and engineering solutions available to us. Better ones are becoming available to us all the time. We just need to start broadening this conversation until everyone realizes that this is not a bi-partisan issue. This is the same type of issue as if some alien species invaded the world and we all had to band together. This is the same type of issue as if America was attacked by some other country. In other words, we should set aside petty divisive bullshit like identity politics and make every conversation about this instead of about bullshit identity politics.
