the most hypersegregated cities in the country are in the northeast and midwest

the area with the highest black/white dissimilarity index in the south is port arthur, texas at 18th, behind places like detroit, milwaukee, buffalo (NY), boston, and chicago

Tbh I don't care about people trash talking the South even though I grew up there it's just kinda funny when a person from the Midwest does it

All of this dick measuring when you're at best the second worst region of the US right behind the South in terms of fatasses and racism, especially considering where the KKK had their revival

Something to be proud of for sure

Haven't you admitted that you're from Maryland?

That's not the real south.

I lived up north and have spent a shit ton of time in the north and I saw racism on a daily basis.

Newsflash, there's racism everywhere and only ignorant people think it's only happening in the south.

I don't think anyone thinks that racism doesn't exist outside of the South. People are expressing their experiences. I'm not sure why you are getting bent out of shape about that.

I honestly couldn't care less. This is a place for discussion right? That's what im trying to have.

It's just funny when people's experiences are that one time they spent one day or their experience is from what they heard 10 years ago.

last year I had to go to Kentucky and South Carolina.

Kentucky is fucking awful. I felt like I was practically a super model there. I was pretty much the only man over 30 with all his teeth and not fat. Lots of toothless women, too. Louisville itself wasn't totally awful but anything out of it was like 3rd world country.

South Carolina (Charleston) I think there was more money there. A few attractive people there but again, just so many fat people.

At both places the vendors I was visiting gave me shit for eating a salad at lunch or dinner or whatever (salad? You don't need a salad, try this instead) . Lots of food policing, "you need to try this fried lard" and the likes.

Food elitism and policing is the only moral policing that is acceptable.

I mean im used to food policing, people do that shit everywhere. but in seattle it is more "really? another slice of pizza? You don't want salad instead?" instead of "eat 4000 more calories so I don't feel shitty about eating so much in front of you"

that's not the mentality though

people are much less self-conscious about their food in the south, which is one reason we're so fat

The types of food, meals and occasions where food is present is apart of a lot of southern people's lives yeah. I mean some people start the day with biscuits and gravy. Just starting your day off with carbs and calories. The restaurant portions of food here are insane. I've bought General Tso from a local place that comes with rice and egg roll and ate leftovers for lunch two days after that. Restaurants are catering to what they know people want; more.

Couple that with the fact that those things lead to a lot of overweight people, being overweight isn't as much of a minority than in other US regions so people aren't as self conscious.

However I see a lot of trim people and gyms popping up all other in the big cities. So some people are either trying to get fit or stay fit too. Because food in the south is like drinking in the whole of US. People do it for every occasion.

You wouldn't to happen have some sources for me to check out about this, would you? I have to admit I'm skeptical.

I got it from a chapter in this book: https://www.amazon.com/Prosperity-Americas-Communities-Twenty-First-Century/dp/081224785X/ (I think Chapter 6, Confronting the Legacy of American Apartheid but I don't have it on me)

this list also has that info: https://s4.ad.brown.edu/projects/diversity/SegSorting/Default.aspx

you can set it to sort areas by their White-Black/Black-White index of dissimilarity at the top, which is the figure I was going by, although to be fair some of the areas with good black-white integration don't have good white-hispanic integration (e.g., Prescott, AZ)

actually that was a shot in the dark, prescott is apparently pretty integrated either way

but anyways my point is that there is more variance in how integrated hispanics are with whites than blacks

I think you've got some cognitive dissonance going on here. If you truly do not care, you wouldn't be emotional about the way people are expressing their experiences here. It's okay to care. I care.

Yes, this is a place for discussion. So, why not engage people in the discussion instead of stomping all over people? For example, Balrog is bringing up points that urban areas in the north end up having more systematic racism than the south. That's a good way to go about it.

Lol, I can guarantee im not emotional.

I tried to have a discussion. The guy that brought up how much the south sucks, asked him where he lives and what places he's visited. No response.

I have literally never said this a single time anywhere online or irl. I don't know how who are but if this is this start of some obsession with me after the "aren't you a well known troll" comment you should probably drop it because I'm not gonna post enough to entertain you

I grew up in Georgia and Mississippi and have been living in Maryland for a year. Born in California, lived in Indiana for 6 years for grad school and Alabama for 4 years for undergrad. With all of these edits that should be enough to get my life story out there for reference

Actually maybe that wasn't even you but I'm pretty sure it was a DBZ username so this might be "users with DBZ usernames being shitposters" bias talking sry

Your posts say otherwise about your heightened emotion. I'm not sure why that bothers you. It's okay to care about it. My point is that you are going about this in a manner that isn't really promoting discussion with you. I'm just suggesting that you might consider taking an alternative approach.

Lol, okay.

There is nothing wrong with expressing personal experiences in this topic. Just because you may not like what you hear, doesn't mean that it negates what actually happens to people.

And I'll go back to this one.

So if I go to California and I meet one person that's an asshole. So from my one personal example, can I assume that every single person from the West coast is an asshole? Because that's what's happening in this topic.

I love personal examples, but when you have 1 example.....that pretty much erases everything that person says.

So asking the guy that says the south is all racist where he lives and where in the south he's been isn't a good way? What would have been a good way?
