I think this is gonna be a one-and-done sort of game.

I bought it because the graphics looked really cool, and because I wanted to try a Grasshopper Manufacture game. I've heard that Suda51 games tend to get crazy and weird, but I wasn't quite ready for how avant-garde this game comes across as right out of the gate. Lots of weird imagery, mostly involving the moon, and a lot of long, continuous dialogue involving subjects that don't make a whole lot of sense - not yet, and maybe not ever.

I'm not hot on hack n' slash games, so I jumped in on the Easy difficulty. The plan was to play it once in Easy mode, then replay it in Normal with Japanese voices. But after playing three missions, I feel like there's a bit of jank in the movement and I'm not sure how I'm liking the game's artsy atmosphere. The aesthetic is cool, I particularly like the title cards of each mission, but the game doesn't feel so hot to play. Part of that is apprehension at playing a Japanese hack n' slash, but a majority is because objects have clipped through the main character and I've gotten stuck on lamps. The game looks sleek and awesome, but the gameplay has rough edges.

I knew that this game was a hack n' slash game before I bought it, so that's on me. I'm not going to verbally buttfuck it for that. I'm here for Suda51 - this is actually my first Suda game ever. The question is, how much am I going to like Suda's style? Right now it's interesting, to say the least.

I'd give it a go if there was a PC port. To my understanding, it's only on 6th gen consoles.

The thing with Suda games is that most of them have a debatable amount of Suda direction in them, so it's hard to even tell nowadays when a game is his particular brand of crazy or if it's just his team trying to ape his style.
I think it's generally accepted that Killer7 is way more Suda than KID is, and the only reason I bring it up is because it was theorized before launch that KID is the Killer7 sequel weirdos like me were clamoring for, but now any connections between the two seem forced at best.

Tbh I would strongly recommend emulating the game. I'm watching a let's play right now that shows off the game in 4K and it looks glorious. The cel-shading holds up so well and even looks like it was made for high definition.

I've wanted to play this for a while, but I'm not too fussed about tracking down a copy and/or plugging in the Wii. I know there's a PS3 port of the first game, but I imagine it's expensive as balls.

Controls? Oh. Ohhhhh.

TC, Killer7 is 90% on rails, and the shooting in that 10% sucks anyway.

You just said "wait what" and I'm saying "you have no idea how weird and great Suda51 is"

Janky movement, weird-as-fuck themes, but interesting art style...that's basically every single Suda51 game. Oh, and crude humor too.
I still love them though. You just have to expect that the gameplay in his games typically don't feel great, but if you get used to the jank they're pretty fun rides. I've played most of them so I'm pretty familiar with his stuff.

i've played through Killer Is Dead 3 times. The bosses, style, atmosphere, music is really freaking cool and only gets better through the game. The gameplay is average. It is a decent hack-n-slash but has nowhere near the depth that other games like Bayonetta or DMC offer.

The story makes very little sense and requires another playthrough to fully grasp it. Final boss fight is pretty epic. It's a solid 7/10. Definitly play No More Heroes (I bought my ps3 copy for $15). The controls are very stiff and suck but the entire game makes it worth it.

Yeah, I've played a few more levels and I'm starting to warm up to this game.

The Gigolo missions are fucking weird, though.

I played the first 2 missions last night. I hope all the missions aren't that short.

No More Heroes 1 and 2 are great. Really looking forward to 3.

We don't talk about those. But if you want a massive drill for an arm, you have to do them.
