When it comes to black metal, you can't get much more dark than Mayhem. Apart from their live performances where the dudes would bury their clothes and dig them up the night of concerts, and wear makeup that makes them look like corpses, they are responsible for 2 murders and several church burnings. Their lead singer "Dead" committed suicide and left an interesting suicide note. Then the bassist Varg murdered their guitarist Euronymous and spend 15 years in prison, but was paroled a few years ago.

Their music was decent for black metal standards, but overall the story is a curious piece of history.

Their "story" is a blight on the metal community and is part of what gives the genre a bad name.

They were the worst kind of tryhards, sick in the head, and frankly, human scum. Although, I'm not sure if the latter applies to "Dead".

Actually they pretty much pioneered the term "black metal" and inspired thousands of bands which tried to emulate their style.

In what year was your first concert of Mayhem? I'm wondering just in case you might've seen them before Dead's suicide.

GG Allen was more screwed up in the head than them. Both are crazy though.

Most of Allin's antics were on-stage bullshit and things he said from interviews.

He didn't nonchalantly use a photo of his dead friend for an album cover. Not that I would put it past him and that's not to say he wasn't crazy(hell, Trevor in GTAV reminded me of him), but Euranymous(sp?) decided to play arts and crafts with the aforementioned dead body and that Burzum dude killed him out of paranoia.

Naw that would've been awesome. I've only seen them with attila. First time was maybe like 2010
