Why do we have so many different shows about him yelling? Why do people find that entertaining? Apparently that's what Americans like and it's really played up for us compared to his British shows. Also, being a food elitist isn't something I find relatable

I hate that him being nice to kids is supposed to be amazing, like him not being an asshole to kids is basically the show.

People like it because he's justified because he actually knows what he's talking about.

Also americans like angry things:

Yeah, the whole meme that Gordon Ramsay is an angry dick isn't really justified, that's mostly American TV shows. If you see him in other stuff, like his recipe videos, or anything else, he's actually pretty damn nice.

The only cooking show I've ever really enjoyed is Iron Chef, and it's almost perfect for the genre. If you like elitist chefs, it has that, but their elitism shines through in their dishes, not them saying how terrible other chefs are. It has manufactured spectacle, but it's so over-the-top and self-aware that it's fun. I'd take that over manufactured drama. And each episode is a self-contained competition, rather than having to follow an entire season to see who wins. The only thing it doesn't have is yelling and swearing, but who cares about those

You've obviously never worked in a kitchen if you don't think yelling and swearing is a thing in them

Yes it does. You're saying the yelling and swearing is just manufactured drama but I'm telling you that shit happens all the time in kitchens

What?!

The only thing I've seen of him with kids has him smiling and giving me diabetes with how sweet he is. You're telling me he yells and screams at the children and makes them cry?!

Okay, but it's well-known that it's played up for cameras. I also didn't specify what I considered manufactured drama. For example, I've seen Ramsay shows where they're in the middle of an elimination or whatever and do a cut to commercial right before he says the name, like they love doing in a ton of American reality shows. That's also manufactured drama. Or how they use music and zooms

Well, yeah I don't deny that pretty much all the cooking shows are basically reality tv. Chopped is a good example. Everyone on that show has some exaggerated melodrama that's supposed to make you root for them. Probably half made up stories

I like seeing people getting yelled at for stupid shit. Even if it is staged it doesn't matter. Plus I actually find the other aspects of some of the shows interesting. Kitchen Nightmares and Hells Kitchen are both shows I watch occasionally.

Can't say I've noticed and I've watched both. Ramsay lives up to his persona regardless. Still most reality American shows are over the top in reactions and whatnot so it's hardly surprising.

Every top chef thinks they are the best. Hell even low end chefs think they are the best. Truth is though everyone has different tastes and you can't please everyone so opinions will be different.
