Poll of the Day > Question about Super Mario 64, Tiny-Huge Island in particular.

So I was wondering, does the island get bigger/smaller, or does Mario?

I've read online that the guide says that Mario changes size (P.106 of the official Player's Guide), but have read arguments against that as well. I personally believe Mario gets smaller/bigger but both sides make great points. #hollywoodpescado

What do you guys think?

Mario's size never changes, mario's exact size in subpixels is required by all the hitboxes in the game. There's a youtuber that does a lot of Mario 64 stuff, famous for the "Parallel Universe" videos

it's called tiny huge island for a reason imo. but i can see why it can be interpreted both ways.

The island and its inhabitants change size. You can tell by looking at the two paintings Mario jumps in. One is big and one is small. The room that the paintings reside in doesn't change it's size as Mario gets closer or farther from a painting, so that means Mario doesn't grow or shrink.

You have a good point with your post but if this is true, then why are only some of them visible (for example, those black ball things that shoot flames at you or the boss bass?)

Because when they're tiny, a lot of them hide from the giant human that's stomping around the place.
