I'm gonna try to explain the situation as quickly as possible.

Four Right-wing parties formed the so called Alliance for Sweden and governed from October 2006 to October 2014. They outsourced parts of the work tasks of government agencies to private contractors. The current leader of the Neoliberals was in charge of the directive on behalf of the former prime-minister (the former Conservative leader).

Not long after the Alliance lost power to the Socialdemocrats there was a data leak related to the Transport Agency due to the outsourcing. Three ministers learned about the leak but they didn't inform the Prime-minister (the leader of the Socialdemocrats) nor Riksdagen (our Parliment) until after quite some time. The leak has been handled by the Security agencies and by the Military but the three ministers covering it up has led to the four leaders of the Alliance parties taking a shared stance TODAY and launching a Vote of No Confidence toward the three ministers.

To launch a vote against all three is currently being condemned even by some Right-wing politicians but the Nationalists will support the vote (cuz they love causing chaos unless they get what they want) so the vote will pass when it is held. So now our Prime-minister is according to sources considering resigning and letting the four Right-wing parties form a government.

But next year is election year and the traditional Right is in a bad position in the polls and governing with a small minority for a year on a Socialdemocratic budget (the coming budget has already passed Riksdagen) will probably not help them in the election. And more and more blame is being turned towards them for the leak itself since it was their policies which did cause the leak. The three Socdems fucked up by covering up the leak at first for sure though. Anyway, the PM resigning might be the smartest thing for him since it will probably help his party in the long run.

Our political climate is usually stable so this is almost exciting in a weird way >_>

And now a source within the Neoliberal party is saying "We didn't mean to cause a governmental crisis. We are not prepared to govern with such a small number of seats in Riksdagen."

Well issuing a vote of no confidence against three ministers, two of whom are very high up (Interior and Defense), will cause a governmental crisis. The Alliance showing once again that they can't be serious about anything these days.

The Conservative party is on the other hand saying they want the Alliance to take power. The four parties can't even agree on whether they want to govern or not <_<

So if you have a leak what is it? That would mean intel passed notes to your politicians in charge of intel, who waited for a good time to float the news to the press and then they have a big intel commitee hearing. That is how it is done in America.

They would be forced to resign if parliament gets a majority in a vote of no confidence. The govt currently has a minority in parliament and if the prime minister feels that he can't do his job with parliament against his govt like this he might resign, too.

As far as I gather, Löfvén can call for a new election, or just let the Alliance form a government. That is if he resigns. He could also try to appoint new ministers, yeah.

More news:

The Socialdemocratic party is reporting the former Alliance government to the Committee on the Constitution for their decision to outsource the data handling.

The opposition party the Far Left demand the Transport Minister resign but not the Defense and Interior. They are also reporting the old government to the Committee on the Constitution for the outsourcing.

Yes :)

The data could have been compromised and the Transport Minister lied about why she fired the agency's director (the real reason was the leak). Our Minister of Defense and Minister of the Interior also knew about the situation.

Löfven is reforming his government.

Anna Johansson (Minister of Transport) and Anders Ygeman (Minister of the Interior) have decided to step down. Minister of Defense Peter Hultqvist is to stay (he is legit awesome at his job and losing him would be a national security risk to be honest and without any hyperbole - several of his political opponents agree on this).

Löfven says that if Riksdagen still decide to go ahead with a vote of no confidence against our MoD then the consequences will be on them.

Our Minister of Healthcare is also leaving now with the reformation, but this is due to health reasons and not related to the data leak.

Current Socialdemocratic group leader Tomas Eneroth will become Minister of Infrastructure which absorb the Minister of Transport position.

Minister of Justice Morgan Johansson will be Minister of Justice and the Interior.

Löfven says it would be irresponsible to throw the country into chaos with an extra election or by leaving the country government-less.

It will be interesting to see the response from the Right on this because Hultqvist's departement, the Departement of Defense, isn't involved in the leak and he has done everything the Constitution demand he does as Minister of DoD. So he hasn't violated the Constitution and a vote of no confidence is only supposed to be used when such a violation has occurred. So the Right have put themselves in a bad situation by being too trigger happy yesterday. They can't back on the motion without losing credibility but going forward with the motion against Hultqvist will also damage their credibility and show that they abuse parliamental procedures in an irresponsible way to gain political wins.

I can't speak for his competence as minister of Defence, but I have no love for Hultqvist. The way he meddled with Högskolan i Dalarnas decision to shut down campus Borlänge just because he's from there was really disgusting, and also against the decree that higher education bodies should be autonomous.

I am not informed enough on that but I do know his performance as MoS well and trust me, he is great in that role. At least if you hold the opinion that Sweden should be able to defend itself from threats as well as possible. He is fond of military might but we need a person like that in charge of Defense these days.

Poll show that a majority of the population support Löfven's decision to reform the government and keep Hultqvist as Minister of Defense.
