Cars 1 - 400 million

Cars 2 - 500 million

Cars 3 - only 250 million in the past month aginst a 175 million budget? Damn.

I know that for Cars 2 at least, Pixar made over a billion from merchandising alone so the actual movie's gross was not a concern. I wonder if it's the same with cars 3 because while it's too early to say for sure, but isn't that a low box office number when a month has passed. Since most movies get all the returns from the very first few weeks.

I wonder how it could make so much in merchandise but not even a tenth of that in the box office. Are people buying the toys without even watching the movie?

I mean, with Cars 3 especially, yeah. They're just cars with faces on them.

All the toy boxes have cover art of the movies and consumable goods tend to have one of those "in theaters now!" labels next to the cars. It's another form of advertisement for the movies, so I wonder why they don't seem to work on the masses.

Kids love Mater more than lightning as far as i can tell.

And in 2 he gets a spy tool that lets him change disguise- meaning 1 toy per disguise. Its merchandising genius.

It's telling that out of all the Disney movies out there these days it's Cars 3 that gets a direct tie-in video game. It's an interesting franchise in that way. Pretty much all the money comes from merch.

The rest don't have tie in games? Honestly I don't get why disney doesn't venture into the video game market; with their resources they could actually make some really great games, maybe rejuvenate the platformer genre. I really like those disney interactive games of the 90s.

Finding Dory was disappointing. The parts with Dory and her parents were great but the rest of the movie kind of dragged.

Especially at the end, when we have this wonderful, beautiful moment where Dory reunites with her parents. I totally cried. It was a perfect emotional climax to the movie.

...but after that we have to sit through a ridiculous, anticlimactic action set piece that goes way too long.

Inside Out is great though. I think it may be Pixar's best movie yet.

This.

Also, who knew Larry the Cable Guy couldn't front a multi-movie franchise, huh?

Seriously, he's awful. I saw him on Conan awhile back and he literally was just setting up cheesy joke after cheesy joke like the interview was a Henny Youngman routine.
