And it's fucking tearing me up. I love him so much. He just turned fifteen and had a very quick drop off in health the past three weeks. He's taking medication and pain killers every day, I have to give him an IV ever day, and he's just getting sicker and weaker every day. He can't walk straight, he barely eats, and he just isn't happy.

I don't know what I'm going to do without him. I have held him and just cried my eyes out every day for like two weeks straight.

There is a lady nearby that comes to your house and puts your animal to sleep in a nice and loving environment, I think I may do that. I don't know if I can handle being there when it happens but I feel I owe it to him to be with him when he goes.

Aww that's so hard. So sorry for you and kitty.

Be there with him if you can. He will be more calm with you at his side. It's usually a gentle and quick procedure. You never know what you will want to tell him before he goes.

My Siren is 17 and about 2 years ago she stopped eating and was always hiding. We thought we were going to lose her, but eventually she recovered. A few weeks ago she got lost outside (roomate locked her out on her patio), and I thought that was it, so I have been close to loosing her and I know how hard it is.

Me and my wife basically consider her our daughter and I love her with all my heart. I will be heartbroken when she passes, and I know that is going to happen in the next 3-4 years probably:(

Just remember all the good times you have had with your cat and that you gave it a great life, and that it knows you loved it.

This scares the shit out of me. What if I do it and he could have lived for two more years? It's clear things are bad right now. Worse than they have ever been. But what if he could recover?

As the adopted half-owner of a 10-year old dog, I myself am also dreading the day she leaves. I just try to be happy seeing her healthy for as many days as she can be.

I'm so sorry for that. And I do know how you feel. I had a dog that suffered greatly towards the end of his life. Seeing them suffering and hearing their cries of agony daily and there's nothing you can do....it's hell.

Be strong. And I hope you do what you think is right.

That sucks. My cat was like my son, and he died of (presumably) a heart attack. It sucked, but it certainly beat having to actually go and put him down. It's a horrible situation, just make the most of the time you have left with him.

Sorry to hear op. We adopted a stray kitten two years back and he has become the love of the home. I can't imagine how agonizing it would be to watch him die. I'll keep your little kitty in my prayers

Yeah, Siren was not suffering, she just wouldn't eat etc. You don't have a choice if they are in constant pain/suffering. Nobody wants to see their pet go through that.

You have done the best you could for him, and given him the best life possible. That is all you can do.

Awwwww....

tbh, all of my cats died naturally. Only ever had to put a dog down growing up. Granted, the two cats who lived to 18 or 19 (sisters) looked terrible towards the end. I half suspect that they may have died of a broken heart since I hadn't been able to pay as much attention to them.
