Almost done with season 3 now. Fuck my ass this is a great show. It's quickly become one of my favorites.

Amazing writing, amazing characters, and a fantastic portrayal of the relationships and dynamics between all the conflicting characters and factions, as well as probably the best portrayal of pirates in general that I've ever seen on film or on TV.

It's on Hulu, go watch it.

The first season's pacing is a little rough at first, but not terrible, and seasons 2 and 3 get much better in that regard.

Again, it's on Hulu if you have that.

I legit might buy the series on DVD when I have a little spare cash.

I disagree, but to be fair, I can kinda see where you're coming from if you don't know what to expect going in.

Season 1 does have a lot of set up, and focuses a lot on the politics involved amongst the pirates and their crews, so if you go into it wanting just straight up bloody fight scenes every other scene, you're not going to get that right away. There are still a few really good action scenes in season 1, but seasons 2 and 3 are where the action sequences really match the political stuff in terms of quality.

If you aren't interested in relationship dynamics and a lot of political manipulation and backstabbing, the show honestly probably isn't for you, cause that's where a lot of the focus is.

I don't know if there's been a blu-ray release of the show TBH, I've seen it on stores in shelves a couple times but only on DVD, haven't looked up if it's on Blu-Ray or not.

Black Sails is amazing-- second only to GoT, imo. The set design is phenomenal. The writing takes a few episodes to get going but later is some of the best in television. The music uses an instrument palate unlike anything I've ever heard before. The world feels authentic in a way that few shows manage to pull off.

I always felt like it was underrated and not a lot of people watched it. Excellent series imo, I kept up with it while it aired. Nothing touches it as far as an authentic pirate series or film.

Agreed on all points. Very few entertainment outlets published reviews, forums had low participation, the show was repeatedly snubbed at the Emmys and the buzz online all seemed to come from a vocal minority of people who loved the show, like myself.

Its amazing. Season 2 finale remains one of my favorite moments in television period.

Crying shame this show went virtually unnoticed its entire run.

I was looking up where to find Charles Vane in an Assassin's Creed IV mission when I found out he was a character on the show. Also recognized "Calico" Jack Rackham, Benjamin Hornigold, Anne Bonny, and Woodes Rogers from the game.

Jack Rackham is one of my favorite Television characters ever, he's fantastic, and so damn human and relate-able.

Yeah, any time a character on the show dies I look them up to see how closely their death matches history.

Yeah, I was surprised to see how many characters from the game were real people. Stede Bonnet most of all, though he's not on the show.

I'm watching the first episode right now btw. I have it running while I sail around picking up the uncharted Animus fragments and chests in Black Flag. Really wish I knew about the show like 2-3 weeks ago. I would much rather have been watching this during my playthrough than Gotham, the Pirates movies, or that AMC Revolutionary War show.

Well fuck. I think I like this shows "Blackbeard" better than the real one.
