"This video is not available"

Gods dammit Star Trek, will you stop with all the region locking bullshit? Not exactly in keeping with the spirit of the Federation, is it?

Thanks, Jeff. Now, let's see...

That was definitely much better than the previous teasers. Still hate the new Klingons, but other than that, I'm hyped.

Also... Mudd? Harry Mudd? Wasn't expecting to see him again.

Why do they have the Enterprise pins when at that time every ship had its own little pin design?

This series is going to do a million things like this, oh well.

Rainn Wilson from The Office, no less!

By the way, I made this topic on NeoGAF. It's a little more exhaustive.

My take is basically the same as it was before

I'm cautiously optimistic and I'll give it a shot, but it clearly doesn't care about the minor details just the same as ENT didn't, it's taking a modern approach of arcs and interconnected episodes instead of being episodic, and the aesthetics of the interior of the ship often don't match previous series. The biggest one being the transporter room which looks nothing like any other one.

Again, I'll go into it with an open mind, but it almost feels like Space Adventure instead of Star Trek.

Well I'm glad you typed more than that, at least! I prefer serialized, as you know, so I'm very happy it's going this route. However, I hope that within the first couple of seasons we do see a few more standalone vehicles as well. As for the minor details, I'd argue you're wrong there overall. It's the minor details they do seem to care about. Look up the new tricorder, communicator, phaser, phaser rifle, all that geeky tech, and you'll see that it is very, very similar to the TOS aesthetic despite the 21st-century visual upgrade. It's really quite lovely. It's a lot of the bigger fare that's drawing a divergent path, really.

You and I definitely come at this from different wavelengths, and that's fine. I know plenty of Trek fans who are more in your universe: it has to match, it has to feel right, it ought to look more TOS-esque and less Abrams-esque or else what's the point of their chosen chronology. That stuff doesn't bother me much. It's some of the last stuff I think about.

That's totally fair.

I should say that I didn't mind ENT's aesthetic, I thought they did a good job of making it look modern for the 2000s while still more primitive than the 1960s ship. That's one of the few things I think ENT did perfectly. Here I don't feel that way, but I guess we'll see.

There's also a problem with prequels in particular, I guess. We know there can't be an all-out war between the Federation and the Klingons because there wasn't one in TOS, so we already kind of know how things have to go.
