Especially the final season, and especially the final few episodes...

I look back at the first 3+ seasons (and even season 5) and get emotional but then the awful memories of the final season always come back to me

I mean it is kind of a premise that should only last 3 seasons at most. I mean how is a guy going to tell his kids about "how I met your mother" for 8 years and make it somewhat interesting.

I also remember hearing about how the creators wanted the show to end before the last season, and they were forced to add it in because the network wanted their top show to keep going.

The final season wasn't a bad premise; in fact it was a really great idea. But it was mainly the last couple episodes that stomped on everything before it, making it pointless, and almost ruining the entire show

Deep down the show never really cared about that though. It was just about telling the stories of a 20-something trying to live a life.

And more specifically at its heart, the show was really about Lilly and Marshall more than anything else
