I was at a friends house the other day and a dude whipped out a Switch. I'd never seen one in person before and then he showed me we could literally play two player Mario Kart while the screen held itself upright. I was fucking amazed.

I have a friend who does, but he's a super nerd and not big on legit partying, doesn't drink, etc.

But even still, it's common for me and my friends to get together, get drunk as fuck, and play mario kart, Super Smash bros. or whatever while hammered. It's a good time.

The reason taking video games elsewhere/to parties/etc doesn't usually work out is because there's a select few number of fanatic video game fans, much less Nintendo fans, that would be interested in that. And most of those fans that would be interested in that, what's the chance that where they're going, their friends aren't interested in it too?


Personally, I enjoy video games - I'd enjoy playing video games at a party, etc. But I'm also a normal person IRL and I have normal friends who AREN'T interested in that. I'm not exclusively friends with people who want to play Nintendo Switch at a party.

You could say the same for any other hobby. "Why don't you take [hobby] to the party??" It's because there's a limited amount of people interested in it.

I've got three friends with a Switch plus myself and it usually gets a solid amount of use at parties. It's nice because we can easily set up a few different genres of games when it's clear some people aren't into whatever happens to be playing on the main screen.

A lot of people don't go to parties to make friends. They already have them. If you've got a group of friends at a party who'd be into it why wouldn't you do it?

And if someone else had set up a Switch and a party and I didn't know them I would be more likely to approach and join in tbh.

I don't see the Switch anywhere and I live in NYC. Didn't even see a single one at Anime Boston.

For the most part, I don't know anyone who still plays Nintendo games, even if they do still game.

If gaming is ever involved in a group of friends or a party/get together, it's on the Xbox 360/One and either a sport game or a fighter.

At most functions I go to there are a few different activities you can choose from including

drinking/shots
Beer pong
Watch a movie
Dance floor
Smoking section
Fire pit
Swimming pool
Video games

Then again I kick it in the bay so we known for being diverse af. Depends on where the party is, but yeah video games are not frowned upon at all.
