It was not only inevitable, but all the hints were extremely well-put throughout the series, I'd say it's about damn time it finally happened, such a major change was deeply needed, the last season of the show was beyond boring, I genuinely considered dropping the show for good if the new upcoming era doesn't shake things up. I think it's time for this version of Who to end. Wrap it up. Capaldi's run would have been so much better if they had been building toward an end. Steve Moffat and his weird sense of storytelling and narrative has been ruining the show for the past few years (you're right about the magic wand thing, that's been getting ridiculous).
