No. Even at 13, I knew people were way over-exaggerating what would happen.

No. We didn't even own a compute so 12 year old me didn't really comprehend how bad it could be or give a fuck.

I was a few days out from turning 10, and it made no sense to me. I knew people who were worried about it, and the exchange always went like this;

Them: "All the computers are going to die because they can't roll over from 1999 to 2000!"
Me: "Why not?
Them: "Uuuuuuhhhhhhhhhh"

I was far more concerned with our New Years Eve tradition of eating Lobster to care about some supposed problem that nobody could even explain to me.

I had a passing concern that the power might go out for a couple of hours or maybe even a couple of days, but I never expected Armageddon because of a computer's calendar rolling over.

I was smart at the time. People freaked out saying planes were going to come crashing down and more. Just based on my mind saying "I can't see how planes would come crashing down just because we lose power when they have fuel", I was never fearful of the idea. It just made zero sense to me.

I was 17 at the time, and I knew it was being greatly overexaggerated. Like, people were expecting devices that don't even keep track of the date to fail for some reason.

My sister was convinced the world was going to end and insisted we do nothing but stay home on the 21st. I admit I was a little nervous, but was pretty sure nothing was going to happen.

Yes. Mostly because I was nine and a couple of my parents' friends talked about nuclear holocaust while I was in earshot. That plus the dream scene from Terminator 2 fucked me up for a while there.

I was 16, and I thought it was hogwash. My English teacher was going on about how the world was going to change, and planes would crash, the Internet would shut down, and we'd be thrust back to civilization like it was in the early 1900's.

I think he was trolling us though, he had a habit of playing pranks to file people up, and was quite the jokester. I think he might've just been exaggerating to try and fear monger the kids that believed it, and honestly, I wouldn't put it past him to do such a thing.

I can't remember anything substantial before the 2000s so the paranoia of the Y2K bug seemed so ridiculous when I learnt about it in high school. You have old people complaining about how the English literature and society is being dumbed down by the youth with words like bae and lit but they were in hysterics over an outdated computer calendar system smh

Because they didn't want to accept that they'd been living in mediocrity and were in need of saving.

Not really. Nobody did a particularly good job of explaining it to me, so I never saw the problem.I literally remember a teacher saying this:

Just think of what it will do at banks, when suddenly the computers think it's 1900! George Washington was alive then! Everyone's account will get erased because they're not born yet!

It's not that it was exaggerated exactly, it was going to be a problem, so they warned people about it, so they got it fixed, so then it wasn't a problem. That's good, more things should go that way. There is a year 2038 problem coming up.

There is no 2038 problem. There was one, but it was fixed when epoch time started getting tracked in 64 bit integers.

Some legacy software that no one cares about will break. Nothing of any value will be affected.

My family was moving on that day and I remember my mom bought alot of candles just in case the power went out. We all sat by the TV and watched the countdown waiting to see if anything happened.

The power did go out but that was my dad playing a prank. I was 10 at the time.
