You apply for a job, and you have to think about what it's like working it. You imagine/dream yourself working at the job and all the prospects it entails. "Hmm, yea, I can do this". You send your application. And just like that, no response. Dream crushed. Now do it again.

I don't do that until I get called in for an Interview. Otherwise I just look at them as another hole to stick my resume into.

I hate the "show them you're interested" advice, although I think it's a little more relevant when you're in the stages of applying. You're better off getting a hiring manager's attention if you have a connection you can apply through or can figure out how to contact them directly, rather than applying through an online portal.

making a login for every company is annoying too

then they have you change the password once in a while like I'm going to complain if someone applies for a job on my behalf. There is no long term damage to me if a job is applied for without my consent so just make the application process easier
