I've never heard of this. I do 20% give or take. $2 for that unless you're hanging around and taking up space and preventing the server from earning more tips.

Nothing makes a server/other tipped job groan harder than exactly what OP described. They know you're gonna sit there piddling around with your glass of water and your 1 $9 appetizer and that's eating up a table they could be making like $30 on if serious patrons sat at it.

I generally always tip the usual 15-20%, more often than not 18-20%. However, when I go to a sit down restaurant, I always leave a minimum of 3 bucks. IE if my bill is 9 dollars I'd leave a 3 dollar tip.

Servers deserve to get paid whatever the people are willing to pay them. In a system where servers "get paid more" (an increased hourly wage) the following problems will arise:

- Prices on food will go way up
- Number of servers on hand will go DOWN
- People will stop eating out because muh prices
- Servers will make less money overall
- Fewer server positions will exist
- Fewer kitchen jobs will exist
- Fewer restaurants will exist
- More unskilled poors will be left begging on the streets

Please re-evaluate your existence before talking about things you don't understand.

Well I mean, suppose you tip your plate if it's under $15, tip 15-20% over. Now the tip for a $14.99 meal is almost five times the tip for a $15. So the server is gonna try to keep you under $15 or go really big on you. Not a lot of people ate gonna spend $100 on one meal so in practice all the servers are gonna try to actually talk people out of ordering fancy expensive food, to the frustration of the employer.

But with this tip bracket system, if you break $15, the tip still goes up, so servers will always be trying to suggestive sell and upsell to get more tip money but won't get screwed by some dude coming in and ordering an additional topping as his meal.

You're already expected to be carrying enough money to tip them anyway. Just adjust the prices and make management take care of it since tipping is now mandatory rather than what it started off being.

I'm pretty sure that is just French people. They especially hate Americans like a lot of the world. I've heard Canadians travel with Canadian clothes so people don't think they are American and they get treated better.

Servers don't deserve more than minimum wage. This is the real reason servers bitch about tips, because they've tasted the amount of money they can cuck out of people for doing minimal tier work.

No, this isn't 1910, people deserve a livable wage.

Yes, food price will go up, but you won't have to fucking tip, so it works out. People will never stop eating out. Kitchens won't close. Seattle is doing just fine.

Servers shouldn't rely on strangers to pay their paycheck - that's the employer's job. So no, you shouldn't get away with paying servers $2.50 an hour.

Your tip has to be at least 10 times the value of the meal

For example, if your meal costs 5 cents you tip 50 cents, if your meal costs 2 cents you tip 20 cents, etc.
