much of a ripoff as Nintendo charging for online.

You're paying for a condition that will not improve over time and only exists because people know they can get away with it.

So why not do the smart thing and charge people for health care?

And no, obesity is not that bad compared to smoking.

Why isn't obesity that bad compared to smoking? Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, and adult onset diabetes is another big healthcare drain. Just because there isn't secondhand lard like secondhand smoking?

People are doing drugs right now without universal healthcare. Are you implying we will see a huge increase in drug addiction if people don't have to worry about healthcare bills?

Also, people absolutely can improve over time. All drug addicts are not lost causes.

I'm assuming that our are in the USA like myself so why do you think that health care doesn't cost money? Are you not paying for your own health care expenses?

Obesity is JUST AS BAD. It's the result of poor life choices. So no paying for heart bypasses or treating diabetes either.

While unhealthy people have larger costs at any given time, they die sooner.
Someone who has a bunch of expensive cancer treatments and dies at 50, may well cost less overall than someone who lives a relatively healthy life out to 90-something or beyond. A heroin addict who's in and out of rehab and dead at 27 will cost even less overall.

You act as though obesity is done on purpose or done out of ignorance

Sometimes, yes it is. Sometimes, no.

No second hand, and also because obesity is often unintentional.

Health care costs money for the government. Taxpayers are paying for that in many countries in Canada.

Smokers have NO EXCUSE to continue their actions. Overweight people don't have much of an excuse either, but they only harm themselves and they often don't get fat on purpose.

This is one reason why universal healthcare is a ticking timebomb, at least in America. We've got way too many obese people weighing down the healthcare system as is. And the nation is only getting fatter. Not to mention we barely exercise, barely eat right, and barely quit bad habits like smoking.

Increasing taxes to pay for other people's bad habits would be like throwing money into a hole that just gets bigger over time.

I'm a smoker, TC. I even used to do street drugs and drink a TON of alcohol.

I quit the drugs two years ago and alcohol a few months ago. I've only kept smoking to help get me sober and will start the patch in the next couple months.

So yes, addicts do want to change sometimes. And something people need to realize is that once you're an addict, you're always an addict, regardless of whether you are sober/clean or not.

I have both quit smoking and gone from out of shape to running 10.5 miles twice a week with interval sprints and weight lifting 4 times a week.

Getting in shape is much easier than quitting smoking. The fuck are you on about people dont choose to be obese.

Uh, yes? Once you are aware you are starting to get a little overweight, you must purposefully continue to keep eating too much in order to end up obese.

Maybe not the drug addicts themselves, but the ones who are selling the drugs want to get their customers hooked. So why not force the sellers to accept the fact that they just murdered someone?

Agreed we shouldn't be going after the obese. It's McDonald's and the corn farmers we should be gong after. They're the ones murdering people.

Being fat is far more of a choice than being a drug addict. At least there's an actual addiction there for crackheads and smokers, versus laziness and not being willing to put the fork down for fat people.

It's not okay, but you act as though obesity is done because people are ignorant.
