Would you break employee/company policy and do the "right thing" in a situation like this?

32 y/o former Home Depot employee, Dillon Reagan was FIRED because he tried to stop a CHILD ABDUCTION in Portland, Oregon which violated the company's safety policy!!

He found himself unemployed in late June over the incident as he was nearing the end of his shift at t he tool rental centre when a co-worker alerted him to a disturbance in the parking lot.

he and another employee found a woman outside of the store who was crying and screaming that a man assaulted her and reached into the backseat of her car and grabbed her child.

The 2 employees called 911 and the dispatcher instructed them NOT to approach the suspect but to follow him until police arrived..police arrived in a few minutes and the child was returned to the mother.

Dillon and a co-worker gave statements and returned to work 10 minutes later

His supervisor yelled at him stating he should have gone back to work at once and after multiple meetings with his manager, he was terminated after 4 years of being a sales associate.

The May 12th incident was his SECOND STRIKE while the first time he was caught using foul language during an argument with a co-worker.

But he said he does not regret stepping in to protect a child and said "it was still the right thing to do. I was kind of in a catch-22 situation: i'm damned if i do, damned if i don't"..

Police later concluded that it was NOT a kidnapping but a domestic dispute and no crime was committed

Dillon shared a letter 10 days later from his firing approving his unemployment benefits as they said what he did was not a willful or wantonly negligent violation of the standers of behaviour an employer as the right to expect an employee

Home Depot issued a statement and offered to re-instate him and said "We took a second look at this and have let Mr Reagan known that we've decided to reverse our decision based on our circumstances. We always do our dillegence to make sure associates are treated fairly, which we've done in this case"

But Dillon said NO nor will he shop there again and wrote "F*** YOU, HOME DEPOT".

He said they should be doing the right thing regardless of company policy and regardless of consequence.

Wait, so he didn't actually confront the suspect? He only went out to the parking lot, talked to the woman, and called 911?
