Several of the former ministers of the right-wing Reinfeldt administration which governed Sweden 2006-2014 keep taking out "ex-minister retirement" despite having new fancy jobs where they earn around 1 million kronor a year. A journalist called one of the ministers, former Minister of Agriculture Eskil Erlandsson, and asked him why he's doing this. Here is a part of the call:

- This is a retirement you have to apply for willingly. How do you reason when you continue to take this retirement year after year?

- These are the conditions for the position I've had.

- But the Alliance government (what the 4 right-wing parties called their coalition) that you were part of opposed living on welfare, lowered unemployment pay and sickness pay - don't you think this goes against that philosophy?

- These are as I said the conditions for the position I've had.

- Fredrik Reinfeldt and Göran Hägglund (two other ex-ministers) saw this as a temporary adaptation benefit. Why haven't you reasoned the same way?

- Yes, these are as I said the conditions for the position I've had.

- Yes, yes, I understand. But have you reasoned about this or is it something you haven't really thought about?

- No, these are as I said the conditions for the position I've had.

- But it is tax payer money.

- Yes, yeah sure. But these are the conditions in my case. If you are part of a government for eight years and in my age as well, then you have these conditions.


These greedy bastards should be ashamed of themselves. Their administration, for a time, literally forced terminally ill people to keep applying for jobs 40 hours a week or else see their healthcare stripped from them. But to keep lining your own pockets with tax payer money despite having new jobs doesn't strike them as odd. The traditional right in this country is collapsing these days and rightfully so. And these laws need an overhaul quick - these politician benefits, surprise surprise, became more generous during the Reinfeldt days.
