I've completed Demons Souls, dabbled with DS1 and played a bit of BloodBorne at a friends house. I've enjoyed everything in the Souls series, but never actually completed a run. How is the combat in DS2 compared to the others? Enemy/Boss Design? Is weapon durability as much of a pain as I hear? Are the levels more linear like Demons or more open ended and loop back into each other like DS1?

enemy and boss design is by far the worst in the souls series. Weapon durability is only a pain on the pc version when the game runs at 60fps but there are so many bonfires it's not too bad.

Levels are very linear. Combat is is the worst in the series because the hitboxes are very poorly made. An axe slam can land 5 feet to your right and it'll still do damage to you.

The only bright side to DS2 is that there are a lot of weapon/armor choices and it had solid pvp when it was popular.

Dark souls two has too many bosses because of this a lot of them are very lazy.

It's absolute garbage. From the animations, to the unresponsive controls, and sluggish combat it's very bad mechanically. Easily the worst in the series

Not as bad as it was during launch, but still an annoyance.

Comparing it to Demon's would be an insult. At least with Demon's the levels had atmosphere, logic, and shortcuts in great locations.

2 literally has corridors with bonfires at the dead ends. Unlike with Dark Souls 1 where it interconnects together seamlessly, and it would be been a more complete product were it not for time constraints. However, having said that, I'd still prefer the Lost Izalith locales to the clusterfuck shitsjow 2 offered.

Dark Souls 2 is FUN

But 1 is better of course, you can't top perfection

Combat definitely feels sluggish. Rolling/dodging is unresponsive at best, and I'm noticing that I'm taking a lot of ghost damage in some fights. Rolling away perfectly, without any reaction animation, only to take a chunk of damage from a swing from the enemy 1-2 feet away. When I fight big enemies, I realize that I'm as slow as they are and it can be difficult to kill them compared to other souls games.

The graphics are terrible, too, and the forest of the giants level has some godawful ps2 level graphics on the ground/vegetation.

I'll still probably put a few more hours into it but at the moment, it hasn't pulled me in like Demons, DS1 or BloodBorne. I still haven't played DS3 and I hear that one is great, though.
