ISIS has declared its defeat in Mosul, saying it was due to use the fight-or-flight strategy, a local source said on Friday.

The source asserted that ISIS declaration of defeat came in a speech by an ISIS top leader Abu al-Baraa al-Mousali in Tal Afar.

Al-Mousali also designated Tal Afar as a temporary base of operations for the group.

This comes in the wake of ISIS defeat in the right bank of Mosul as Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi announced, upon the recapture of Grand al-Nuri Mosque's site in the right bank of Mosul.

It never was. People like my mom just watched the news and spewed the rhetoric to make them sound deadly. I'm sorry, but when only one side can launch a full invasion of the other, it's not a threat, it's a nuisance.

To be fair, they did overthrow local governments and start collecting taxes from the citizens. They were never a threat to the west, but they were definitely akin to historical barbarian invasions.

lolwut? Literally the same was true of Al-Qaeda yet they destroyed a major landmark and were partially responsible for triggering a global economic recession. Then you have Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols, who were just two men, yet they were responsible for one of the largest acts of domestic terror in US history. Of course, all of that overlooks that ISIS ****HAS**** been invading cities and countries with reasonable amounts of success. The fact that a war halfway across the world rarely trickles over to the US doesn't mean that their organization isn't formidable.

I mean something else is just going to replace them if we leave it as "ISIS defeated"

Probably not. Instead, it'd likely be smaller and weaker groups with far less effective recruitment and results. If ISIS were to be replaced, it would more likely result from an internal change which changes the organizational hierarchy where one of its splinter groups rises to prominence, in much the same way that ISIS originally swore allegiance to Al-Qaeda but they didn't see eye-to-eye on methods.
