I dont plan on running next year, but if I had, I learned that the national party would not have supported me because of my radical positions on the minimum wage and the ACA. This is after they asked me to run and I said no.

I live in Arkansas and work as a health care policy analyst for a state level nonprofit that hildawg herself founded
how are dems so bad at politics???

Arkansas is pretty red. You can't really have "radical" left views there and expect to gain traction. If you campaigned in Arkansas as you would in California it would be a landslide defeat.

Being opposed to the minimum wage is very radical and anti-worker... That's more radical than what almost any Republican believes; it's very Ayn Randian. I can understand disagreeing with $15/hr or even $12/hr, but being against the minimum wage entirely is weird.

Being pro-ACA isn't radical... Every Democrat is trying to save it right now.

well

basically I think we should remove state-level legilsation that regulates unions so workers can unionize more easily

in exchange we ought to stop exempting capital gains and dividends from state-level income taxes

ill finish when I get home and am not on mobile

It's not that they're bad at politics; it's that they would rather lose altogether than win on a socialist platform. The Democratic Party will never truly entertain such policies, and so, like the GOP, it must be either abandoned or destroyed.

Neither of those things are "socialist"

Socialism is for 13 year olds.

Trying to save it and calling it pretty good are two different things. It's God awful but they try to save it. I mean it's just gonna keep getting worse and worse. I don't know why they fight so hard to protect something like that.

What bothers me most about Rebel is that he actually pretends to be on the right side of history when, in reality, he's chilling in his nice little Californian enclave, going on about how great it is to live in his bastion of progressivism while ignoring the people who can't even make rent there. It's apparent he doesn't actually give a shit about workers, yet he has no problem spending energy shaming those he considers neckbeards or whatever. He is a conspicuous wart even within his own neoliberal milieu.

It really isn't. It shows the inherent flaws of socialism since they didn't get rich on capitalism first. Trying to prop up the European model of socialism is the meme here as getting rich on capitalism first only delays the inevitable.

I would, the problem is that Venezuela's economic activity is driven by capital accumulation, most of its enterprises are still privately owned, the wage-labor relationship still dominates there, and it still functions in the context of a global capitalist society. Your Venezuela card is an annoying and wrongheaded meme.

So basically "socialism isn't really socialism until the global economy is run on socialism"

Didn't Bernie Sanders praise Venezuela as a successful example of socialism back when he still called himself a socialist?

I can see the logic in what they're thinking. "We're going to have these few policies we'll dedicate to and we need everyone on board with at least this"

Worked for the GOP well enough, but meh one has to wonder if they're being a tad overzealous

I'm a social democrat who strongly believes in workers rights, living wages, affordable housing, welfare programs, and strong safety nets, actually. And I've talked about those issues on a frequent basis on this very board. So kindly fuck off and go read your Marx in the corner like a big boy.

You can support pro-worker and progressive movements without supporting the Soviet-fetishizing DSA and realizing that neither capitalism nor socialism are healthy on their own.

Lol?

I was one of the most fervent Sanders supporters on this board during the primaries. Ask fucking CruelBuffalo, we used to always argue about it. I then supported Hillary during the general, as any sane person would do. I also don't recall bashing Sanders supporters so maybe you're thinking of someone else?

I'm a neoliberal who lives in little rock, Arkansas, and not that anything else should matter here but I was homeless from the ages of 4 to 13 when I lived in California but then extended family helped us move here

Man this topic for way more responses than I thought it would

Too much to respond to individually I think.

Honestly my opinion is that they should have asked me if I was Christian, or at least would pretend to be publicly, or not off the bat.

I'm not and wouldn't pretend I was, which is way worse here than any actual policy position I could take.

Basically democrats are nerds who don't get 'real America' or something
