If they don't also get trained it will be a super terrible idea. Even if they get trained, still not really a great idea.

Allowing them to carry, yes, arming them, no.

I just know the day is coming where we will hear about either

1. A teacher threatening (or worse) people
2. A student somehow accessing the gun and threatening (or worse) people

Ideally they would have two arms, but one would suffice.

I've seen teachers lose their shit way too often for me to be comfortable around them while they're carrying.

Hell no. That just creates a tenser environment for students and how would easier access to guns in schools account for the contingency of either a student somehow gaining access to a gun because of poor safety protocols or a teacher going postal?

It's just unnecessary. All this Big Brother shit because of random isolated incidents.

There's the posibility that a student grabs a teacher's weapon but frankly considering some of the teachers I had in school (especially elementary), the bigger issue is the possibility that the twacher gets so pissed off at the students for being annoying that she uses it herself.

If I were a teacher I wouldn't want to carry a gun. Seems like just more liability issues to worry about

Police state is right within Big Brother's parameters.

It's impossible for incidents to be stopped by civilians when they happen in gun-free zones unless a citizen was carrying illegally.

Guys, it's not like all teachers would carry, it'd be mostly ones that already have guns, ccwp, etc would be allowed to.
You guys are acting like fear mongering cowards, there are already states that allow teachers to have guns and no, no spike in teacher/student violent.

So instead of the job "police", think of that word in the context of what the verb means.

Guns address symptoms of violent thoughts and behavior after the damage is done.

There should be more done to prevent incidents and treat students who need the help

I've seen students break teacher's souls, the last thing there needs to be is a gun. Properly trained armed guards and metal detectors would be better. My high school always had a police officer or two around. One in particular was an asshole.

I think if it was done right it could be a good thing. Problem is no one is perfect and somewhere along the line a teacher will forget to lock it up and a kid will get to it.

Bad idea, I don't think people with very stressful jobs should be armed. Unless its a job where they need a job. I see a teacher holding a class hostage.

I had a history teacher who had a gun in his desk and when we were being too bad he would go to the desk and just put it on there to show that we had to shut the fuck up now. Only one student tried to be billy badass and dare him to go through with it, but she quickly backed down when she heard the click sound. On one hand, it got the class to shut up, on the other hand, what he did was pretty damn illegal. He's still working there to this day.

^ I started HS before columbine. 1998 hunting season there were tons of trucks with guns in the gun rack in the back window in the school parking lot. No fuss was made. Up until like 1994 my school had a shooting club at the HS and middle school and we had an archery club until my sr. year.

Though yeah, I never had a teacher cocking a gun in threaten students.

Well yeah this was the main thing that made my eyebrow raise. But hell, even the stuff that you mentioned, I'd just have a hard time envisioning. That stuff wouldn't be allowed in the slightest where/when I went to school, in flipping Texas of all places.
