Kent Ekeroth, one of the core members of Sverigedemokraterna (Sweden's nationalist party), has been found guilty of assault in a case where he attacked a young man outside a night club. The young man made a comment about iron bars toward Ekeroth (alluding to another violent scandal involving Ekeroth where he and two other Nationalist MPs walked around central Stockholm and threatened foreign looking people while armed with iron bars). This comment made Ekeroth punch the man in the face.

He's now been found guilty in court but he's not getting jail time - he's "only" having to pay damages to the young man. Sverigedemokraterna is now trying to distance itself from him but they can't force him to resign from his seat in Parliament. SD is by far the party with the highest amount of politicians with past crime convictions.

Remember when people on CE would defend a physically violent act against someone saying "mean" words by using an argument like don't start none, won't be none?

Those were the good ol days.

Small correction (I think I've said this before?): Iron pipe would be a better translation. An iron bar sounds huge.

Anyway this serves him right. He should have been excluded a long time ago. However his brother Ted has a pretty sensible rant about how the party is being very selective in who they exclude and who they don't. Martin Kinnunen wasn't excluded, and he was sentenced to a much higher fine. Mattias Karlsson claims that their ethical guidelines prohibit "people who were found guilty of violent crimes recently", but Ted cited the actual ethical guidelines, and it just says crime. IRM had some nice screencaps from Facebook about it.

Also, Ekeroth claims he's gonna appeal. I don't think that the verdict will change tbh. His and his friend's testimonies differ while the testimonies of the six witnesses do not.

Bigly oblong iron item! :P

Yes, he sure should have been. There are probably several members that should go the same way as Ekeroth. And an appeal could backfire and result in an even harsher sentence actually.

Ekeroth got a habit of getting drunk and in trouble at clubs. Very unbecoming for anyone, but especially so for a Member of Parliament. I'm not jealous of his "Secret Service" agents.

Yeah, apparently he's well known in the police force for being a troublesome drunk out on the town quite often. He's done tons of fuck ups over the years, both these kinds, and also saying some really stupid (but honest) stuff that betrays his party's "polished façade". So it's no wonder they want to use this opportunity to get rid of him.

Not America, CE won't care.

What do you want them to say? A guy, with connections, hurt another guy, who has no connections, and the court said yeah, he did it but no jail time for him. It sucks, but it's case closed. This also was about an assault. Yes, it's bad, but CE would probably care more if people died or there was sex involved.

I'm imagine someone doing this in any of the "non white" neighborhoods down here in Dixie and not being blasted in the face after a while (motherfuckers serious about carrying heat down here)

Imagine further still if it was US Congress people doing it cuz MPs are our equivalent of your House and Senate members.
