CNN accepted the resignations Monday of three journalists involved in a retracted story about a supposed investigation into a pre-inaugural meeting between an associate of President Donald Trump and the head of a Russian investment fund.

The story was posted on the network's website on Thursday and was removed, with all links disabled, Friday night. CNN immediately apologized to Anthony Scaramucci, the Trump transition team member who was reported to be involved in the meeting.

The story's author, Thomas Frank, was among those who resigned, according to a network executive who requested anonymity because the person was not authorized to discuss personnel issues. Also losing their jobs were Eric Lichtblau, an assistant managing editor in CNN's Washington bureau, and Lex Haris, head of the investigations unit.

CNN, in initially taking down the story, said it didn't meet its editorial standards. The episode is a damaging blow for a network that Trump has frequently derided as "fake news," and for a story that never even made it onto any of CNN's television networks.

The network is on fire right now. I don't know how any leftist on this board, or otherwise, can claim CNN is a reliable news source. Their press pass needs to be revoked. There's also the video where the CNN producer of ten years admits they use the Russian narrative as a story for ratings.

This "news" station is falling apart at the seams, and being exposed for what they are: A TMZ level network that reports on fake news day in and day out. At least TMZ has legit sources and are actually much more reliable in their hollywood news stories.

so what happened here was a major news network conducted an investigation when overzeaolus reporters pushed an inaccurate story, pulled the story when it was found to be without merit, and pushed out the reporters? also, wasn't it washington post that called them out?

isn't that exactly what is supposed to happen when a news network makes a mistake?

or is the argument "news networks should never make mistakes and any mistake they ever make is grounds to never trust them again" ?

because if so, I have bad news for you

How many coincidences are we to believe in here? They have been caught time and time and time and time and time and time and time and time and time and time and time and time and time again reporting on fake news.

When does it cease to become "an accident?" Just curious.

This is half of what's supposed to be happening -- the accountability element, at least when caught.

The other half, which is a lot more important, is having a leadership culture that doesn't foster fake news and clickbait journalism in this first place.

You missed the fundamental point of me bringing up Trump at all. Which is that if someone is calling out an organization for being liars, and this is primarily driven by constant negative press against that someone, it might be worthwhile to examine whether or not that someone has the propensity to lie themselves.

so what would be an example of a news agency that has a leadership culture that doesn't foster fake news and clickbait journalism

and what specifically makes you believe CNN has such a culture, since we can agree that a single instance does not make for a clear indictment of leadership culture

People are lazy. Plain and simple.

The 20 or so minutes people spend ranting and getting triggered by news articles could be spent looking into it. We all have access to endless information. Litterly at our finger tips.

I enjoy the fake shit. Good laugh. Cant help those who blindly take one side.

Mainly the ones that have content good enough that people are willing to pay for it, so they're not reliant on chasing ad clicks. For those sources, there is a consumer penalty for shitty reporting rather than a reward. This would include the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and even Washington Post. Despite WashPo having a known bias (especially in its opinion pieces), it's a still a legitimate news organization.

Actually, it stems from inaccurate race baiting reporting that inspired riots and has gotten people killed. If you think CNN did anyone a service by publishing their "hands up, don't shoot" narrative, you're clearly part of the problem.

That I have an issue with reporting on police violence against minorities. I don't. I have an issue with inaccurate race baiting journalism like we clearly saw with Trayvon, Mike Brown, and Freddie Gray. That's the product you get when your revenue is tied to ad clicks, and it's disgusting.

The fact that CNN and other clickbait media sites found a formula for generating revenue by stirring racial tensions and inspiring riots is what got me "fired up," yes. And it should get anyone fired up who sees what the outcome of their greed was.

Precisely, how long would you keep an employee that kept making the same mistake time and time again, and who also fabricated information on his reports time and time again?

When does it stop becoming a simple mistake and more of a pattern?

I've been watching a lot of CNN this year and they are almost pure trash. 80% of coverage is the Trump Russia shit despite pretty much nothing coming of it (at least yet). They literally try to play up old new like it's some major breaking shit despite it being known already. They did this with the Comey hearing. Like we pretty much already knew most of what he said and they were like OMFG this is huge.
