They were telling me all about the high property taxes and whatnot. They're wanting to move out of Jersey so bad, but unfortunately can't because of how much money they'd have to pay due to taxes. If you're just looking to move somewhere warm and cheap so you can set money aside, Florida is probably fine, but if you're looking to settle down and grow roots, there are plenty of reasons to stay. schooling is really dependent on your district. when i was going for my teaching certification, i remember there being like 600 school districts. seems like every town in essex had their own fucking district. property does seem to inflate like crazy. I'm no expert, but at least here in Oregon, the budget problems have a lot to do with huge pension guarantees that were made to public employees for decades that ended up being really unsustainable. There have been cuts to public education to pay for the pensions of retired public employees.
