You're sent to either by yourself, which would you be more afraid of?

Deep down in the ocean, not deep out at sea.

Deep sea.

Outer space doesn't have nightmare fuel lifeforms floating around in it. At least, not that we know of.

Just like Markiplier, I hate the ocean. It is like space, cept worse, cause there is less light, and crushing depths.

Can the deep sea destroy the entire planet in an instant? Space can. A meteor or a gamma ray burst could eradicate us all at any time. Does that really compare to a freaky looking shark a mile below the sea you'll never actually encounter?

At least in space you can see, and not instantly die if you are out of your ship.

In deep sea, you at least have a tiny chance of surviving. Teeny tiny, sure, but it beats your chances against "well, literally floating here until I suffocate."

Deep sea.

Outer space is a lot bigger than the sea. It has less living things per square km.

You can't see something that travels at the speed of light in advance (gamma rays).

What chance? The pressure from the water would crush you like a grape the moment you get there.

Which is clearly why everything in space is currently obliterated and nothing exists out there.

Things in the ocean won't kill me if I simply avoid it. Things in space will. Space can annihilate us in an instant. The ocean can't do that!

Do you not understand what is in the ocean? Or what the ocean itself can do?

Shit that can't kill me in an instant, completely unaware that it's even happening.

There are things like Bigfin Squids in the ocean. I don't want to know what their adults look like, not considering what else could exist down there.

In space I could just find a planet with no life, or hell, even drift and not have to worry about possible eldritch abominations as long as I don't go too far.

Also after nearly drowning I have minor aquaphobia.

Well I'm assuming we're given sufficient equipment to physically survive, such as pressurized suits. If not, then you'd only last a few seconds longer in space.

Deep sea is pretty scary, but I think if you were actually out in the depths of space it would probably be even more scary, but its hard to imagine since its so foreign to us

Yeah, you're in a single person sub or space ship.

In that case, yeah, you'd be better off in space.
