Because it is a word you should be able to recognize but not really know, just like acquaintances.

Yeah but ''known person'' or ''someone I know'' sounds almost like I'm referring to a friend, at least that's what most people would think.

It's phonetic, just not phonetic in the English alphabet, but it doesn't matter because Latin.

That's the issue with English, it's such a heavily bastardized language now...
