Long story short is I had a friend staying with me as a roommate giving him a pretty good deal on staying with me, all I asked for was $300 a month which was the difference I needed to he able to basically afford to live and considerably cheaper than anything he'd be able to get anywhere else out here.
He left without any notice today, I came home and his shit was just gone, I text him asking what was up and he said he's moving in with some chick he met. I know it's completely my fault for not having any kind of legal agreement with him and just having a personal deal with him, but I'm completely fucked now unless I can pull $300 out of my ass by the time the bills are due next month.
I'm gonna try to run over my finances and see if I can find some dirt cheap prepaid cell plan, shut off my home internet for awhile, cut down to just eating instant ramen or some shit (which he basically left me cleaned out on food), and whatever else I can cut aside from the essentials like water and electricity which my electric bill is already gonna be outrageous because he's been lowering the ac to super low despite me telling him multiple times. But I really don't think I'm gonna be able to cut enough but maybe I'll at least be able to cut it enough to get some money from my mom or someone to be able to make it through the month.

Not really sure what else to do here but I'm feeling pretty fucked. Anyone else have any advice? I've never been in this kind of situation before.

sorry brother....300 is a lot of money, but in the grand scheme of things it's easily obtainable

i'd say go after him for your food

That's what I'm hoping but I know money is tight in basically my entire family even though ones who are upper middle class because they all live above the means. And pretty much all my friends are around my age and just as broke as me. I'm hoping you work some kind of voodoo and manage to miraculously cut $200+. I've never had to ask anyone for money before and I'm not looking forward to it.

And I'm still gonna try to get something from him from the food and electric at least, plus just bringing up the dickness of doing all this without any notice whatsoever but if he isn't willing to I don't really have anything I can do about that and I'm getting the feeling he's going to leave me stuck and fucked.

I've said it a lot of times on CE, but try to go snag a bartending job or barbacking job for the next few days. You can get hired on the spot and make $300 quick.

I don't know the first thing about bartending or if anywhere around here even has any kind of openings.
But I'm gonna see about getting more hours at work and if I can get any kind of advance or something.

It's not really just this month I'm worried about but the next 2-3 as well because idk how long it's going to take to get this sorted out. I guess if I get desperate enough I'll just put an ad on Craigslist for next to nothing. But I don't want to end up with a bunch of shady people, drug users, or any shit like that. I don't want to have to be afraid of getting robbed or worse by some random I let stay here.

Work one of those 10 hour factory jobs, they pay at minimum 11 dollar an hour and at most you get 4 to 5 days, even more if you're actually fit enough to handle the load and still be fast and efferent. It's a living but it's definitely not something to seek a career in.

Can't you just bang it on a credit card for a month or two until the situation is resolved, then pay it back off?

Not ideal, but a lot better than being homeless!

Fake it until you make it. There are tons of bars even in rural areas, even if you don't feel confident, you (no offense) sound desperate, and bars are usually always hiring.

Also, I'd probably shame your friend publicly a bit on social media for being that trashy that he left you with very little food and a higher electricity bill if he doesn't pitch you over a few bucks at least

Reduce spending, find another roomate asap and never let friends stay without a contract again.

Your friend really stole all your food? Some friend that is, i don't think he thought of you as a friend, he was probably just leeching of you.

MetroPCS goes as low as $30 a month prepaid. I think they throttle your Internet speed after a certain amount of data usage but you can still use it after that point. According to their website they also let you use your phone as a mobile hotspot.

I take it you don't have a credit card, TC? This is why credit cards ARE essential. If you're ever in a tight spot you atleast have some sort of security.

And I know someone here mentioned a bartending gig, but getting a serving position would be easier and you can make instant cash after every shift.

this, though credit cards are for situations and this definitely qualifies.
rather kick the can down the path and deal with it later when times are better.

wish i could give apology to situation since i lived through that before but it won't do diddly squat.
only worse situation i'm dealing with is losing about 80% of my income which goes to cover the rent. did get some of it back though (not completely).

if you are this desperate you should have searched for ways of making more money while he was with you. You should be on the cheapest cell phone plan possible. Stop paying for internet. You could have been saving like 70 dollars a month at least on those things

And as other people mentioned credit cards will help a lot in this situation to buy you time to get another source of income. Don't give up

Lots of churches have food giveaways (as in a full grocery haul, not just a meal) on specific days of the week/month. I've never gone to the ones in my town but it's nice to know it's there if I ever need it. My understanding is that there's only some basic requirement like you have to show up at the day/time they specify for you otherwise you have to wait until the next set date.
