It's more on the person that stole it, but I'd say you still fucked up. Our world is far from perfect, so it makes the most amount of sense to minimize your risk of being victimized any way that you can (IE: locking up your home when you're away). Yes, people could still break the windows to get in but it's far less likely to happen. More than likely if they try the door and it's locked they will just move on.
